Western Idaho Fair Entries 2011

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

It was an exciting day for my mom and I at the Western Idaho Fair. We both earned ribbons on our entries — mine in photography and my mom’s in quilting (Senior Division). Last year was my first year competing and with the maximum number of three entries per person, I took home three Honorable Mentions so was thrilled. This year I was so excited to have earned higher scores. The following won a First Place ribbon in the “Other” category.

The next one of Connor, Ella, and Landon won a Second Place ribbon in the category called “Children-Humor: Things that Make You Laugh.” I laughed the first time I saw it on my camera after taking it this Easter and knew then I would be entering it in the Fair.

And this one of Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach took a Fourth Place ribbon in the “Seascapes” category. The winning photo was also a photo of Haystack Rock so congratulations Haystack, you photogenic rock you! You rock!

My mom is always making quilts and entered one in the Fair for the first time — one she made for me this past fall. I bought the fabric and she surprised me by giving me the quilt! It was entered it in the Senior Division Category called “Quilts made entirely by hand with no machine stitching” and she took First Place! I was beyond excited walking into the building and seeing hers hanging there so proud right up at the front. The flowers are appliqued and it’s just a fun crazy quilt. Congratulations MOM! You so deserved this! Can’t wait to see what you enter next year! As an update to this post, when I picked up the quilt after the Fair was over, I was excited to see my mom had won a random drawing of all First Place winners – she won another $10 on top of her First Place prize.

How’s it feel to be a WINNER ? I went to the fair the first night and had the attendant help me find your pix. I started hopping around and singing WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER! But make a mental note for next year: get advice from Kathy, do the opposite, and get ready to collect your prize.

Too funny … cause I was hopping around too! Mental note for next year … continue to listen to my good friend’s critique … and give them more choices!

Thanks Lora Lee! I read your message to my mom, who I might add is not like me … she’s much more humble as she didn’t even jump around when she heard she won! Thanks for subscribing to my blog Lora Lee. Hope things are calming down for you guys. Love ya, Mary

Oh, now I HAVE to go to the fair! I can’t wait to see all those awards, I might jump around and squeal as well! So well deserved of all (those ladies in their 80’s ROCK). I know you love taking pictures, now do you believe you have the talent we all have told you about all these years?

Great job! I loved that photo the first time you posted it. I laughed out loud and it made my day. Congrats winner!

And that quilt…..I want one on my bed!!! I love quilts and am very impressed with Aunt Jo’s ability! Wow, some women just have a little more women gene!

I’ll tell mom … you never know … you just might get one. She has made three since Christmas! My mom is a “real woman” too. I love that woman! She bakes, she irons, she sews, she quilts and is humble to boot.
