Welcome to our World Simone!

I am writing this at the end of a very long eventful day. Two weeks late but not a second under-loved, Simone Olivia Gerichs made her entrance into our world at 7:53 am today, April 28! She weighed 8.2 lbs and was 22.5″ long. A little while later Megan called to have us bring Sydney to the Birthing Center to meet the new baby, still not giving any clues as to whether it was a girl or a boy. Boy oh boy was I surprised when Robby asked Sydney if she would like to meet her new sister! It took me a second and then I was taken back with her tons of dark hair! Back to the store I go to exchange all the boy newborn outfits for girl ones — but trust me — I don’t mind one tiny bit!!! Here she is just a few hours old, still waiting for her bath, and with a little bruising from her adventure. She was just so sweet and chunky.

Sydney was a little shy and not sure what to think. She cuddled with her mom first then got to meet Simone. She’s a ‘Big Sister’ now. After meeting the baby, Sydney accompanied us to a wedding and after that, a 50th wedding anniversary. A woman who sat across from us there told Sydney she had a very important big sister job to do — to teach her baby sister to smile. Like this one?

Two and a half years ago — Matt and Danielle had our first grandchild, a boy — MJ. Ten weeks later, Megan and Robby gave us our second grandchild and first granddaughter — Sydney. Three weeks ago, MJ became a big brother to our third grandchild and second grandson — Jayden, and today we got our fourth grandchild and second granddaughter — Simone. I’d say that would make for a pretty good couple of years. Congratulations to all my kids of whom I am so proud I could burst. They sure know how to make beautiful babies! And it all started with this ol’ softie. Man, am I one lucky woman or what!

UPDATE: Simone at one day old. Her skin is already turning pink and she is just a dream. Sydney is still a bit shy with her, which is good. She wasn’t so thrilled about baby Jayden in the beginning. Her mom told her Baby Simone has no teeth so Syd is checking it out. Then below is proud Oma, Robby’s mom, Elli.

What a lot of hair; this girl is hitting the ground running — ready to rock and roll. Watch out, here she comes!

Sydney has turned into a beautiful, expressive young woman and it’s exciting to think about all the things she’s going to teach her new sister. Maybe she’s already taught her a couple of things?

I share your great joy.

Thanks a million times over for all the love and attention you gave Sydney this weekend…that was so important and reassuring to us knowing that she was in good hands while we were filling our hearts with a new sweetie.

Wow what beautiful nieces Danielle and I have. We are so excited for it all to be over but just beginning for the both of us. The thing I am most excited about is getting to raise our children in the same generation so close together and watching all of them grow, learn, and interact. It was great meeting her so soon compared to Syd whom we met around 6 month or so. Congratulation and love ya.

You’re a big softie too, Matt, just like your dad. I know you were worried about Megan, but God had his hand in the whole process, just as with Jayden. Thank you for making a great meal for M & R — they loved it. I heard you got to be referee too. Isn’t it fun watching two year olds learn to “share”. Love you much, Mom

No kidding, you are a softie…and I love it. You’re such an amazing Dad and Uncle…no wonder we still sing the Uncle Matt song nightly…although we have now added that Uncle Matt goes Caca…because we can’t sing it without that part. ??? And what handsome nephews we have- sure you don’t want to try just ONE more time to give me a niece? Wink-Wink. Two little boys is perfect- I Love you!!!
