I am writing this at the end of a very long eventful day. Two weeks late but not a second under-loved, Simone Olivia Gerichs made her entrance into our world at 7:53 am today, April 28! She weighed 8.2 lbs and was 22.5″ long. A little while later Megan called to have us bring Sydney to the Birthing Center to meet the new baby, still not giving any clues as to whether it was a girl or a boy. Boy oh boy was I surprised when Robby asked Sydney if she would like to meet her new sister! It took me a second and then I was taken back with her tons of dark hair! Back to the store I go to exchange all the boy newborn outfits for girl ones — but trust me — I don’t mind one tiny bit!!! Here she is just a few hours old, still waiting for her bath, and with a little bruising from her adventure. She was just so sweet and chunky.
Sydney was a little shy and not sure what to think. She cuddled with her mom first then got to meet Simone. She’s a ‘Big Sister’ now. After meeting the baby, Sydney accompanied us to a wedding and after that, a 50th wedding anniversary. A woman who sat across from us there told Sydney she had a very important big sister job to do — to teach her baby sister to smile. Like this one?
Two and a half years ago — Matt and Danielle had our first grandchild, a boy — MJ. Ten weeks later, Megan and Robby gave us our second grandchild and first granddaughter — Sydney. Three weeks ago, MJ became a big brother to our third grandchild and second grandson — Jayden, and today we got our fourth grandchild and second granddaughter — Simone. I’d say that would make for a pretty good couple of years. Congratulations to all my kids of whom I am so proud I could burst. They sure know how to make beautiful babies! And it all started with this ol’ softie. Man, am I one lucky woman or what!
UPDATE: Simone at one day old. Her skin is already turning pink and she is just a dream. Sydney is still a bit shy with her, which is good. She wasn’t so thrilled about baby Jayden in the beginning. Her mom told her Baby Simone has no teeth so Syd is checking it out. Then below is proud Oma, Robby’s mom, Elli.
