Toby [Newborn]

Toby Andreas R. was born Sunday, May 31 at 9:40 AM at St Al’s weighing 8.1 lbs. and measuring 21″ long. He was 15 days old when I got to photograph him and his mom Jenny and I gave it our best shot to put him to sleep — but he wasn’t having any of it. I have never seen a more determined (and alert) baby to not want to sleep! I even had Jenny come back a second day and still he wouldn’t sleep for us. He was so good though, and has the biggest and most focused blue eyes and the strongest newborn neck I have ever witnessed and he comes armored to withstand all the love a big sister and brother can give. 🙂 I got to photograph Marlies 3-1/2 years ago, and little big brother Erik 2-1/4 years ago and now Toby, so three’s a charm. You’ve heard me say in the past that I will no longer be shooting newborns, but how could I resist all these recent babies when I have photographed their siblings before them! I love these families! I do have one possible commitment in August left and while I absolutely love the outcome of newborn sessions, I have just found this type of photography to be too time and space restrictive. But I would love to photograph your 3-6 month and older children! When they start to sit and walk on their own, they are particularly fun to photograph. Once again, congratulations to Jenny and Roman on their beautiful little boy, and to my friend Kathy who not only welcomed Toby into her life, but her son’s baby as well — Theo born in Seattle just 3 weeks prior to Toby. Babies babies everywhere! Enjoy them — they grow up fast. Love, Mary

Jenny says this next picture shows Toby’s favorite position to be held. Obviously, it’s the best position for him to adore his beautiful mom.

I just love this image. So sweet.

Can you believe he’s only two weeks old!

And while mom tried for the umpteenth time to put Toby to sleep, the big kids and I slipped outside. Roman’s parents are missionaries in New Zealand thus the native outfits for the kiddos.

I recognized Roman, though I’d only met him once three years ago. Your work is always extraordinary, but I think you have a special magic when it comes to babies.

I’m sure it was a lot more work to photograph a non-sleeping baby….but I LOVE these photos! You captured a tiny little personality. My favorite is the one of Toby looking adoringly at his mommy. Great job!!

Thank you everyone for the sweet comments. Jenny and Riman have a sweet family for sure and that little Toby is going to be loved up big time.

Thank you so much for making an exception for little Toby! I think my favorite is the one with the bear hat – it reminds me of a particular picture you took of Erik, who also had a certain quizzical look on his face

Thank you Julia, I just added the link to Erik’s post so others can see what you mean. 🙂

Great shots of a handsome family!

Kathy, thank you for popping in to comment. It’s been fun seeing these kids we’ve known all our lives grow up and have children of their own isn’t it?
