The Big 3-0!

I was almost 28 when I had my daughter after trying for three years and being married for seven. Nothing could have burst my bubble — even having to wear maternity clothes for a month after she was born because I’d gained 40 pounds. It didn’t bother me. Even having to wear my mom’s clothes for the second month because I didn’t have the money to buy new clothes. I didn’t care. We were a family and I was a mom. That’s all I ever dreamed of being really — I wanted to be a mom, and dang it, I was the best one I could be when I finally got the chance to be it! I didn’t do everything right and sometimes I stunk at it, but I still loved being a mom. I still love it now, but on a different level. My kids are now adults and live their own lives and yes, sometimes we don’t see eye to eye, but I will always have a heart for them like no other, and want them to be the very best person they can be. And the best part? … I now get the joy of loving on their kids. I find myself talking about Megan and Matt when they were the age their kids are now. I sometimes get out the old albums and reminisce. We gave up lots of extras in our life so I could stay home with them and I never cared that we didn’t have those things. It’s true that parenting isn’t easy and it’s not for cowards, and maybe I’d tweak a few things here and there if I had it to do over, but for the most part, I wouldn’t change a thing. I have no regrets. We were kids really, but Mike and I (with God’s leading) sure raised a sweet daughter who always thinks of others before herself and who has a milestone 30th birthday today. I sure am proud of her and the mother and wife she has become. We’re going to dinner to celebrate and when we come home, we’re going to have cake … and ice cream … and maybe even two scoops! And in two years we’ll do it again when Matt turns 30. Happy Birthday Megan. May this milestone birthday only be a sweet taste of what is yet to come. Love and Hugs, MOM XXO
