Sylvia Jan [Lifestyle Newborn]

I gave up photographing newborns a long while ago, but I have always been interested in the idea of “lifestyle” newborn photography which basically means going to the client’s house and photographing the newborn in their environment without having to pose them or have them asleep etc. Kari was nice enough to let me experiment on her newborn Sylvia Jan born three weeks early on July 6 at 6:02 PM weighing 6.4 lbs and measuring 19″ long. She’s shown here at two weeks. It was one of those deals where you go for a check-up 3-weeks before your due date and the doctor says “Guess what? You’re having a (non-negotiable) baby today.” Surprise! Well, little Sylvia is just a healthy little beauty and her big sister, Addi — a new four-year-old that I recently photographed (you can see her here) — couldn’t be more proud of her “Sylv.” She met me at the door in her P’J’s and her big smile and was ready to hold her for the first picture (and second, third, and tenth). I will be honest in that I laughed at Addi most of the hour I was there. She is just so excited about this baby and wants to hold her constantly and be in her crib, and let’s just say “Sylv” is probably going to grow up to be very tough. 🙂 Kari is just the most patient momma too and I respect her so much. She is a high school history teacher and we had a little conversation about the state of politics today. Young and old agree it’s going to be an interesting election year to say the least. But enough about politics, it’s all about this cute little baby today, and while the jury is out if I will continue to do this type of photography or not, it sure was fun hanging out with these three wonderful ladies. Thank you Kari, and congrats to you, Addi, and your hubby for this beautiful new addition to your family. Love, Mary

Thank you Barb and Megan … your words are kind, and I agree it is less stress, but I have so much to learn if I keep doing this!
