My Photographic Journey – The End?

Where to start? Perhaps I’ll just start at the end and cut to the chase by saying this is it — the end of my little photo blog here at It’s been a wonderful place to play these past (almost) two years and 190 posts later. I have enjoyed putting my thoughts and photos out there for you to see and I hope you’ve received some enjoyment along the way as well. I was pretty green when I started this blog, and the required hours upon hours of sitting and reading and practicing and tweaking and learning certainly have added the pounds to my behind, but I’d like to think it killed lots of Alzheimer cells in the process as well! Pounds I can lose (eeeeventually) but those brain cells are harder to come by at my age! There were more than a few tears along the way trying to decide if putting myself out there for portrait photography was really something I wanted to do — or more importantly could do. I can now look back at some of the photos I’ve taken and say with pride “wow, did I really take those?” Others? Well, not so much, but I did/do try to learn from my mistakes nonetheless. I make myself quite tired just thinking about the things I still have yet to learn but it’s a process and I am enjoying the journey.

So you see I’m a big girl now, and I’m leaving my insecurities behind. If I suck at something, I’ve learned I’ll get better — it only takes time and practice and a little prodding of good people who have encouraged me along the way. So this is the end … the end of but it’s also just the beginning of! No need to add the WordPress part. I got a domain name! Woo hoo! You’ll see a whole new interface coming soon (and may have temporary blocked access). I’ve teamed up with Bluehost and ProPhoto for a new look at a reasonable fee. So you guys will get to grow right along with me by finding your way around my new site and of course hopefully leaving me some blog love now and then — your comments make my day! Hopefully, my readership will carry over to the new site, but if it doesn’t, please, please, please get me back on your e-mail subscription list or RSS feed right away because you know I’ll miss you terribly. I will! I really will! If you’ve never been a subscriber in the past, I hope you’ll take the 30 seconds to join me this time around on the new site. Come on, it’s going to be fun, and you’ll get to be the first to see Alex, my first senior girl of the 2012-13 school year followed by another newborn, and seriously, how can you resist a newborn! I’ll hopefully continue to get my clients by word-of-mouth referrals from you, so if you ever need some photography done, or know of someone who does, I hope you’ll give me a chance or share my name. In the meantime, keep smiling!

With much blog love from,

🙂 Mary

Great picture of you. . .How did you do that one? Tripod? I’ll be following you wherever you go–but you probably knew that. - August 6, 2012 - 6:25 PM

I shot the staff at work for our Intranet page … just gave my camera to another photographer in the group after doing hers. I just got lucky that one turned out of me … with some “extreme” editing on my part of course. 😉

Mary, I’m so excited and proud of you and your work!!! Can’t wait to do a newborn shoot with you! I already found 2 blankets he will be photographed with 🙂 Can not wait to see your new site! God Bless you!

Kathy Grover - August 7, 2012 - 12:17 AM

Wow, that picture of you just elicited a seriously big smile from me!

I’m sure I don’t have to remind you that no matter how “extreme” the editing, the picture won’t be great unless it’s great to begin with. Kudos to your fellow photographer and to you for being photogenic from the get go. - August 7, 2012 - 7:20 AM

Lacey, thank you! I was so excited when your mom told me you wanted me to photograph Maks. Can’t wait to meet that little guy next month. Sorry to have missed your shower and that growing belly and congrats on the house! So much excitement coming your way. 🙂 Love, Mary

Yay Mom!!! I like to think of myself as one of your biggest cheerleaders…I’m so PROUD of you!!! You’ve come so far, broken out of so many comfort zones and are FINALLY realizing (and admitting) that you really do take amazing photos! I’m excited to watch you expand on your continued journey with Fairly Candid. I admire you!

Oops…it’s not supposed to say Proud Mommy- that was from my last comment! More like Proud Daughter! - August 7, 2012 - 10:24 AM

YES, you have been one of my greatest cheerleaders from the very first day you heard about my new blog and sent me a congratulations card from Hawaii. Seriously, how sweet was that. I appreciate you Megan … and in response to your second comment, I’m the “proud mommy” now.
