About one year ago I made the leap to sponsor a child through Africa New Life Ministries on a monthly basis. Her name is Diane, she is now in 6th grade, loves soccer, English, drawing, and has written me some pretty sweet letters. I say leap because I’ve always been somewhat of a skeptic when it comes to things like this. My most pressing question has always been: How does one really know the children and their family will benefit and not some government fat cat? Charles Buregeya, the Founder and President of ANLM, has been to our church many times over the years to speak; hundreds of children have been sponsored in Rwanda through generous families of our church; several mission trips have taken sponsors from FBC to Rwanda; and many (emphasis on many) people have met their sponsored child first-hand, some several times. Those were some reassuring facts. Any other doubts were left to faith.
ANLM is asking those of us in the social network to get the word out today about “Light the Streets” and I’m happy to do so. You can read more about “Light the Streets” here should you have any interest in involving yourself through a one time donation or more extended commitment. The website will tell you more about their mission goals and the needs of children in the capital city of Kigali and nearby communities.
