Idaho Aquarium – Sydney

Syd and I went to the Aquarium on the first day of March for a little one-on-one time together. She was surprisingly a bit timid with wanting to touch things … but she did.

The sharks and stingray tank had her a bit hesitant and we spent the longest time there trying to get her to pet one. She managed a few stingray wing flaps, but nothing more. I even got brave enough this time (I took MJ there a month ago) to put my hand under their mouth to feel them nuzzle my hand. They are impressive soft creatures.

This guy is huge … and creepy.

Two days a week they have story time with a Mermaid … or in this case a Merman. Syd was pretty apprehensive with this guy too, and wouldn’t even touch his fins. Do I blame her? Uh, nooo!

On a side note, Syd is quite inquisitive about the subject of “pee-pees, boobies, and bummies” lately. After we were done with the Aquarium and were sitting at Qdoba’s for lunch talking, she interrupted me by saying “scooze me Gramma” (she is a polite interrupter). Yes Sydney. “Do you have boobies?” Yes Sydney. “Why?” At another time she stated the fact that boys have pee-pees and did I like them (pee-pees not boys)? I had an answer but I choose not to share it. 🙂 Speaking of boobies, don’t you think they should have painted on a little more swimsuit in this next picture?!

Coming home she said “Gramma, what is your favorite junk food?” My answer was dark chocolate covered craisins and sometimes M & M’s.We got into quite a discussion about our favorites (hers being gum, all cakes and all pies — this from the kid who hardly ever gets sugar), and she was convinced her mom was out having ice cream while we were together. When she wanted to know if I had candy at my house, and I said I did, she bargained for one piece before nap and I agreed if she brushed her teeth afterwards she could have one. Of course as soon as I agreed to one, she started bargaining for two — but lost that battle. “How long before we get to you house, Gramma?” Oh about five minutes. “How about free (3) minutes?” She is quite the negotiator. Her favorite phrase to say right now is “nuts” when something doesn’t go as she wants, but I’m sure she’ll probably start adding on the phrase that I added each time … “nuts … covered in chocolate.” Hey, since we were talking about our favorite junk food, why not go all out!

Last night I was taking some shots of Simone for her 10th month, and of course whenever I do that Syd wants in on the action too. Of course I’m always happy to snap pictures of my g-babes whenever they are in the mood, because there will come a time when they are too busy to sit in front of my camera just for the fun of it. And we do try to make it fun. Grampa was helping me out, and we kept trying to get Syd out of the frame while taking pictures of Simone and her little feelers got hurt, so I stopped and gave her a turn. She was a bit obstinate at first, but as you can see Grampa easily turned her little free spirit on. I love this girl and the man who helps me. They both really know how to laugh. 🙂

Oh how I love seeing pictures of that sweet girl smiling. The fourth down might make it to a frame. LOVE HER!!!

Not so sure about the Merman or the Mermaid painting…conclusion: the Aquarium doesn’t do mermaids all that well. 😉

As always, thanks for a fun, original and lovely Gramma Date.

Love the potty talk when it is a little one. (not so cute when they are 13!) What a fun outing and I love her apprehension about the merman, I agree! Stay away! 😉

You really got her to open up on the last series of pictures, such a great way to capture that moment with her head thrown back laughing.

This makes me feel like the universe is unfolding as it should. Some things are just so right and good!

I loved the photos, too! My favorite part of the post, though, was Sydney being sure that Megan was out having ice cream! Ha ha! LOVE it.
