Hoppy Easter!

You’ve seen a lot of this little guy lately. What can I say … he captivates me and my camera. 🙂 Cole is now 10 months and in keeping with tradition of the g-babes before him, I take monthly pictures the first year (in case you hadn’t figured that out). He is such a sweet content little guy.

This little one up next will be four in a month. Simone is the pistol of the family … whatever her mood, you are going to know about it. She is a firecracker with a big imagination and lots of love to give. Grampa has always called her “Sea Biscuit” and for a long time she was bothered by it and would say “My name is not Sea Biscuit. My name is Simone Olivia Gerichs” and when she would say it she would look something like this.

_MG_7664_web_MG_7723_webLast weekend Grampa and I had the kids over for a “Cousin’s Easter Craft Day and Sleepover” instead of candy easter baskets this year. It was fun, messy, and everything in-between and so worth it to see the cousins having such fun. It was MJ and Sydney that were the shining stars of this weekend. Just so enjoyable. Not that Jayden and Simone weren’t because they were — and as excited and able to concentrate on their projects as the big kids — it’s just that the bigger ones had changed somehow to me with a maturity about them that I hadn’t quite noticed before. The four of them couldn’t have been better for us and I truly wish I would of had a tape recorder running because there was lots of funny sweet stuff being said. (Sniff.) Anyway, I bought some clearance hats and ears just for the fun of it and we took this first shot quick before Cole had to leave — a bit too young for crafts and sleepovers but his time will come. 🙂

_MG_7779_webFirst we dyed Easter eggs the normal way, then added an extra element of tie-dying them. Can you see that same look of mischief on MJ as I do? Not to worry, it the shaving cream mostly stayed where it was supposed to.

Then we did another shaving cream project (not pictured) before doing a couple of painting projects. Jayden, turning four in a week, has changed the most to me this past year. He has really taken to drawing and painting the cutest stick figures and faces and loves to hear praise about his work (who doesn’t). With any compliment he always answers with the sweetest “thanks”. He randomly says “you’re my best friend Gramma” which I know he says to other people but for that moment I am transported. 🙂

While I cleaned up the paint, Grampa entertained them in the backyard for some football throwing lessons. He later took them to our neighborhood park while I cleaned up (some more) and made homemade pizza for dinner. Such a good grampa. 🙂

We started a windsock project after dinner, then stopped to watch a Jesus movie of short Bible stories before bedtime (with of course popcorn — duh.). The one of the Good Samaritan had MJ and Syd almost in tears for the man who was hurt and no one would help him. They were gasping with words like “Gramma, you didn’t tell us this was a mean movie!” In the end Syd (who didn’t want to watch a Jesus movie and came with a backup movie) said “I didn’t want to watch a Jesus movie but that was actually really good.” My little Kindergarten critics. It’s been awesome seeing MJ and Syd learn so much and grow up so much throughout this past year. They were practically inseparable the entire time. We all slept on blow up mattresses on the floor (not Grampa … he has his limits) and I made the mistake of telling them they could talk in bed as long as they wanted. When the little ones needed sleep, I told the big kids it was time to be quite only to hear … “but Gramma you told us we could talk as long as we wanted!.” So I did and so they did. In the morning MJ said “I was really tired Gramma but then I would remember a story from Kindergarten that I had to tell Sydney.” Sydney would then say “Me too gramma. I was really tired but then I remembered something MJ would like to hear from my kindergarten.” You learn a lot about kids on sleepovers except when you fall asleep before them. Wink._MG_7766_web

_MG_7770_web_MG_7773_webHappy Easter everyone. He is risen. He is risen indeed.

Looks like everyone had lots of fun!

All that naked little child with bunny ears on is too much!

Fun to see all the pictures from your special sleepover. These kids are so lucky to have active, creative, energetic grandparents like you to make memories like this.

I love it.

Thanks Mary K. Short and sweet — just like my g-babes.

What wonderful memories made. You have such great ideas and the children look like they are always having so much fun at grandpa and grandmas house.
God Bless you all.

They out number me so I have to do these things now while I can still keep up. Hopefully the memories will help them be nice to Mike and I in our old age! Thanks Tracey. I appreciate you.

Love it! Especially Simone’s ‘serious’ face… reminds me of her mama 🙂

Fairly Candid - March 29, 2016 - 11:23 AM

Hi Liz, thanks for chiming in. I’ll let “mama” know about your comment. She will say that she might resemble that. 🙂

Seriously Mary… you need to stop taking so many dang photos. I’m starting to get mad at you!!

First off, it is totally awesome that you do such a detailed and consistently fantastic job capturing our families lives, but every time I turn around there is another picture that I need to print off and find a place for. It’s too much, the walls are closing in on me and I can’t breathe! My office already looks like the national headquarters for missing children, and our home looks like we obsess a little too much about our kids. STOP IT!!!

…The aforementioned comments were laden with an abundance of sarcasm and jest. :o) Thank You!!!!

Dear Son-in-law. I feel your pain … you’ve seen my g-babes room. How can I help you if I can’t help myself? Love from “I’ll never stop cause your kids are too cute”.

Such DARLING pictures !!! You and Mike are such wonderful Grandparents! Those kids just get cuter and cuter! Our “baby” granddaughter is getting married May 22 to a fantastic guy. He has one more year of seminary to be a youth pastor and Heather just signed a contract in Susan & Ashlee’s
School district to teach math in a middle school!!
The wedding will be in California.
Love & Hugs, LoraLee

Hi Lora Lee and thank you! Miss you guys — hope you make it to Boise this year for a visit. You can then hear for yourselves how noisy these kids are … something you don’t hear in a blog post. 🙂 Ha!
