Happy 5th Nick and Olivia!

Who loves a good romance, or the fun and energy of a child … or how about snakes … eek! This post has them all. I met Nick, Olivia, 4 year old Claire, and 3 year old Daphne almost a year ago at Ella’s ONDderful First Birthday party. Ella’s mom and dad, Lori and Craig, gifted this session to their friends in honor of their fifth wedding anniversary. Pretty nice, huh? It’s great to work with really nice people and I especially love it when parents of children allow me some freedom to shoot however I’d like. They probably weren’t expecting me to catch a snake for their kids, however, but they stood back and never said a word. Of course the little critter was only 8-9″ long (much smaller than the 2-foot long one I saw before they arrived that was much too fast for me to catch) but I was the one surprised when I asked Claire if she would like to hold it — and she did — without absolutely no reservations whatsoever. You go girl! Daphne, on the other hand, was completely unimpressed with the whole shebang.

Our destination was Barber Park. Nick and Olivia had their engagement photos taken there, and now here they are five years and two children later just as in love as ever. I love a good beginning and middle don’t you? I predict they’ll have a long full life of memories together, this day being just one of them. Knowing the summer was coming to a close, they spent the day at Roaring Springs, came home to shower, then were back out again for this photo session! Nice people, cute adorable girls, and just a good ol’ time down by the riverside!

Holy. Cow. I don’t even know these guys, but I have fallen in love with them through your pictures. Once again, seeing pictures taken by Mary = brighter day for me.

This was our fourth annual family picture session, and the absolute best. We’ve done green, yellow, orange, and now purple years. When we put our updated 8×10 family picture (the album cover photo you used- Love it) on the wall, the picture stands out from the other years of forced (non-duchenne) cheap studio smiles. The image doesn’t lie that we all love each other and our time spent together is happy.

My top loves are any action pictures because I can’t normally get pictures of that quality on my phone camera (my primary picture taking device). I love 17 and 20 of 33 when the girls are running and 24 of 33 when we are swinging the girls over the water.

We really love 28 and especially 30 of 33 husband/wife pictures. The snake picture (6 of 33) will be our sister picture for the wall and we like 26 of 33 for a Claire individual and either 13 or 22 for Daphne’s individual picture. 4 and 5 of 33 with our family walking and sitting on the bridge are also our favorites.

We were very pleased to have such a wonderful experience with you and would definitely recommend your creative work to family and friends.

Wow Olivia, you just made my day! Thank you for letting me know of your favorites — many of which were my favorites as well so I appreciate you taking the time. Your purple was awesome and I loved that you have a new color theme each year. So fun! With thanks, Mary

Mary, What a spectacular job! As you can see, I have some very profound competition when it comes to being presented in front of a camera with these three beautiful ladies. You as well could have titled this shoot “Three Beauties and the Beast”. All kidding aside, your style of photography and ability to capture the moment is unparalleled. Thanks for being able to add the spontaneity so desperately needed that day after a non-stop weekend of recreating in the beautiful outdoors of Idaho. As for the discovery of the snake and the inclusion of such a surprise, I have to say that was brilliant! We have captured at least two more snakes since that time for appreciation and observation. My response after seeing these photographs was an exclamation of “Fantastic!”. For any of our photographic needs, especially keepsake family portrait “time captures” I will definitely call you and recommend you again and again. Nicely done. Regards.

Oh my goodness, you two rock! Thank you Nick for your wonderful comments. I truly appreciate them. I named my website Fairly Candid because truly, taking candids is what I love doing the most. True personalities come out when people are just “playing” and it’s good to let our playful side out now and again. Thank you for being such a good sport. With thanks, Mary
