Grannie Smiles

This is Grannie. Not sure which one is making the other smile, but it warms my heart nonetheless. Angie and I have been friends a long time and she is seriously one of the sweetest ladies you’ll ever meet. She’s also fondly been referred to as a “Saint” and the “Travel Agent” in our circle. My sister was actually friends with her before we met since their kids attended the same elementary school. I would later get to know her through church when their family started attending FBC and now she’s just part of the family! This particular night the kids had us all over for dinner. We ate a fabulous meal then the guys retreated to the living room while us girls stayed in the kitchen to clean up the dishes (I’ll refrain from any gender based comments submitted here). We finished the dishes, served Grandma Jo’s pecan pie, then were just visiting in the kitchen where these photos were taken.

Our grandson is almost 17 months old now and has an attitude now and then. First he was all charming giving his Grannie big smiles, hugs, and kisses.

… and then for no other reason than because he could, he started being a little naughty.

He can play his parents pretty good but they’re smart and are catching on to him so it didn’t take Mommy very long to patiently say … “We don’t act like that and one more time and it’s time out for you.” Well, guess what he did? He did the “one more time” thing (you’re all surprised I know). And guess what Mommy did? She did exactly what she said she would do and off he went to time out. I’ve heard of the time out but had never witnessed it. She put him in his time out spot on the couch, gave him a few words to abide by, walked back into the kitchen and continued her conversation with us. What did he do? He sat there. He never tried to get down, he didn’t cry, he didn’t scream, made only a few annoying sounds (to which I just had to take a picture), then quieted down. A few minutes later she picked him up, gave him a big hug and all was good. It was cool and it worked.

It wasn’t until after I got home and downloaded these pictures that I saw why he hadn’t eaten much this past week (accompanied by some pretty disgusting diapers). See it? It’s his brand new molar.

They grow up so fast!

Interesting, I just read about the memories that awaken in your post about your dad & then I see MJ wearing the same shirt Parker wore to our first family photos. Wow, that brings back the flood of emotion from that time. 2 young kids, with a kid! MJ wears it well 😀
