Camping Owies, Wa-Wa, Nammie, and Other Random Stuff

Camp trip #3 was relaxing, quiet, and scenic with intermittent chilly or perfect camping weather. We went to a new place we had scoped out years ago, and bingo, it was a hit. There were 45 camp spots in this campground, and for the first 24 hours Mike and I were the only two humans […]

What a great weekend with the kids and Syd. Loved every part of it especially being alone with grandma for a whole day. Love ya hun. Can’t wait til next time.

Botut (Beth) - June 14, 2011 - 11:48 PM

Looks beautiful and makes me [almost] forget about the lack of showers and caked on soot that accompanies our camping trips. i think your photos could inspire me to do just about anything including splashing with Sydney in glacial waters!

Love that you put that last picture up- it was priceless. 🙂 A wonderful weekend, indeed- thanks again!!!

Memorial Day

On Saturday we went to the cemetery as we do each year. Even though we were there a day early it was already decorated as usual with all the big and small flags — striking in every way. I learned something new this year when my mom shared that the military used to contact my […]

These photos brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing them.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - May 31, 2011 - 6:52 AM

I had a moment or two like that myself while taking them.

Aubrey Archuleta - May 31, 2011 - 7:56 AM

Beautiful, love the one of the black boots, especially.

Glenns Ferry, Idaho

Our second camping trip of the year … ahhhh, I love camping. My hubs organizes the trip every May for our friends, this being our fourth — two at the Carmella RV Park and the last two years at Three Island Crossing. This year there were 12 of us. If you are looking to get […]

Great pictures Mary. I love how you work with the colors – and I loved the flower cart and how you overexposed it but kept the cart in full color! You will have to teach me some of your tricks on the computer!

Your Man - May 17, 2011 - 6:27 PM

I just love seeing all of our friends having a great time, That’s what’s it’s all about. Love ya all Mikey !

Linda - May 17, 2011 - 8:14 PM

I guess I don’t know why I’m always surprised by the beauty of your photos (except for the ones you have to take with me in them–sorry I’m such a poor subject). Beautiful memories–thanks for photographic chronicle of our time together.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - May 17, 2011 - 8:26 PM

You guys always lift me up with your comments. I am “trying” to stretch myself this last year and am feeling good about some of the payoffs. Yeh! As for you Linda – whatever!!! It was me and my shaky hand that left your photo behind. Kathy J. you can come over anytime you want for some “basic” computer editing lessons because I have much to learn about PhotoShop myself. It’s all a process.

Laura Higgs - May 18, 2011 - 6:14 PM

You should be entering your photos in contests if you are not already!

Diane - May 23, 2011 - 4:07 PM

Mary beautiful photo’s you are awesome. Very fun weekend thanks for the memories and laughs. And golfing was a BLAST!!!!!

Julie - May 24, 2011 - 8:17 AM

Wow! Mary you have such a great eye for pictures! I really like the train! Your photos are remarkable! Also, thank you all very much for including us in this awesome weekend getaway, we enjoyed it!

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - May 24, 2011 - 8:37 AM

Thank you Julie! I had so many pictures from that weekend and I appreciated you sharing which was your favorite. Sorry I missed saying goodbye … seems to be a pattern with me lately. We enjoyed your company and wish all good things for your daughter’s upcoming wedding.

Today is a good day. Smile. Mary

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - May 24, 2011 - 8:44 AM

I may have to get in on the golf game next year since I hear too much fun associated with it … or is it with the people who play it? Yea, that’s probably it.

Today is a good day. Smile. Mary

Bye Bye Birdie

Last week I saw Bye Bye Birdie at the Morrison Center for Music Week, then you might recall that Mylah called my five baby chicks “Birdie” in the post called More Chicky Love. Well, birdies went bye-bye today. A nice couple with several acres and lots of chickens (who have a really nice neighbor that told me about […]

Linda - May 3, 2011 - 10:35 PM

Well of course Mikey is looking forward to next year–he is probably already planning to put the stuff in the shed on his side of the garage! You know he loved those chickys.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - May 4, 2011 - 6:19 AM

I am thinking the same thing Linda. He is probably just waiting till next year when it will be a BIG EASTER SURPRISE like it was for him.

Laura Higgs - May 4, 2011 - 4:44 PM

Adorable. This story made me think that maybe when I was a kid, our family dog actually did go to “a farm.” :o)
I felt a sense you may upgrade to goats or llama next year…….

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - May 4, 2011 - 5:51 PM

Laura, you crack me up. Not sure my city covenants would go for the bigger animals, but put me on some acreage and I’m going for it!

botut - May 5, 2011 - 8:26 AM

Oh I love them! I am going to have Donnie build me a coop next year. He is thrilled (not).

Aubrey Archuleta - May 10, 2011 - 3:36 PM

Those pastel eggs! Beautiful. Maybe I will try my hand at chicks in Seattle?

Tulip Appreciation

This week our office put on their yearly “Staff Appreciation Event” which is always top-notch — lunch and entertainment for the whole office (while the office closes down). I work with some great people, in a great location downtown, and with a great schedule. I appreciate that. I really do. I took my camera to […]

More Chicky Love

My friend Kathy has three beautiful granddaughters who live out-of-state. They are home for Spring Break and so I offered for them to come over and see Big Ben and the gang if they’d like. They liked. I asked Kathy to bring her camera and it made my heart happy that she was so snap […]

Cute little chickys all.

Kathy - April 27, 2011 - 9:41 AM

Oh Mary – you did such a good job capturing my beautiful little girls! Thank you for the wonderful blessing of having us over and showing loving patience through all the drama! And, although Mylah looks like a three year old she is actually only two! Hence, the drama…
A memory I am sure the girls will remember for a long time.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - April 27, 2011 - 9:54 AM

Glad you liked them and have fun with all the pictures you took. Oops, thought someone said Mylah was three … I made the correction in the post. 2 … 3 … 6 … 8 … whatever their ages, they are all beauties, those girls!

Happy Easter Everyone!

Easter can be a lot of hype, just like Christmas … but the hype should and can be more than just the commercial type. Easter is a time of year that we remember Jesus dying on the cross, but we celebrate that three days later He rose from the dead! For Christians, eggs came to […]

Happy Easter! Love the chic pictures 🙂

A Big Easter Surprise

On Tuesday, I came home and met Mike outside mowing the yard. [Said in my sweetest wifey voice] “Hon, I need your help. Could you find me a big box … I need a big box.” We chatted about boxes until the big question I was dreading finally came. “What do you need a box for?” “Weeeell […]

Oh Mary! LOL! Those are so cute! Even though they aren’t the photos that you expected to get, they are so darn cute. I love the one of MJ laying on the floor looking at the chick and the one where it looks like he’s going to squeeze the life out of it. So funny! I hope you get the shots that you want on your second try 🙂

Linda Johnston - April 22, 2011 - 8:56 AM

Who needs Anne Geddes when you’ve got Gramma Mary? Sometimes pictures are cuter when they don’t go as we plan. It shows those precious little personalities. Besides, I think there is a reason why Anne Geddes often chooses newborns for her work–they sleep a lot, unlike 1 1/2 year olds. I can even see the look on Mikey’s face when you told him why you needed the box (I think he secretly loves your big ideas). I can see chickey love all over his face.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - April 22, 2011 - 9:57 AM

Oh my goodness Linda, I was smiling through your note, but that last line, I busted out laughing at my desk. Oh my, wait till Mikey reads that! Too good and you are too funny … you should start a blog.

Kathy Grover - April 22, 2011 - 2:29 PM

Holy Cow! Holy Chicks! Anna Geddes has got nothing on you.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - April 22, 2011 - 2:35 PM

Kathy, you always crack me up. Thank you.

Mary Kuehn - April 22, 2011 - 9:02 PM

I will not show those pictures to Mark for he would look like Mike and I would be feeding chicks. My fav was Sydney in a line with the chicks. “The 4 Chicks” Try it again when they are 4 or 5 it might go better. Turned out great! See you soon.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - April 22, 2011 - 10:20 PM

What’s Mark’s e-mail address again?

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - April 22, 2011 - 10:24 PM

Sheila, I could appreciate you being the mother of twins and what you do on a daily basis after this photo shoot … and we had two mothers, a great-grandma and me! Thank you for commenting Sheila … have a great Easter!

Your Man - April 23, 2011 - 6:12 AM

I would really like to know what chickey love is or looks like.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - April 23, 2011 - 7:26 AM

You know when you look at me? That’s chicky love. Lovie you too.

Spring in Hells Canyon

We were out-of-town for our first camping trip of the year this past weekend … the first of many to come (and in the words of our good friend, Kathy … woohoo, woo hoo hoo!) We camped with three other couples and while at times it was cold, or windy, or rainy, there were other […]

What a great time with great friends. Love you all more than you know. Can’t wait till Carmela. Again what great pics. I mean it!

Diane - April 18, 2011 - 7:01 PM

It was a blast. Great pictures.

Megan - April 18, 2011 - 7:45 PM

All I have to say is you’re going to have a HELL of a time figuring out which picture(s) to post in the Western Idaho Fair this year…and I’m going to have a HELL of a time voting!!!

Kathy Grover - April 18, 2011 - 7:58 PM

Looking at these pictures is a bittersweet experience; emotionally difficult because we can’t be a part of this experience, but sweet for so many obvious reasons. I was shocked when I looked at all the pictures because I imagined that Hell’s Canyon was just rocks. I’m an Idaho native and yet never been to Hell’s Canyon, maybe the only place in Idaho I haven’t been. There is vegetation there! I had no idea. I thought you guys would be roughing it and literally parking on rocks, but look at that cushy RV park. How spoiled you are! It sure looks like the perfect time of year to be there. Thank you for sharing, it’s the next best thing to being there.

Linda - April 18, 2011 - 8:12 PM

It was a wonderful time with wonderful friends. The pictures are marvelous, of course. You really know how to capture the beauty of things we walk by without paying attention. I think I’m going to learn to stop and smell, or rather, “see” the roses way more often. By the way, Guy says those power poles look like money to him!! He thinks they are BEA-U-TI-FUL.

Linda - April 18, 2011 - 8:16 PM

So, Mary, where are the pictures of you and Mike? You should have one. I know that you were behind the lens usually, but there was at least one as I recall.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - April 18, 2011 - 9:10 PM

Awww, thanks Babe.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - April 18, 2011 - 9:16 PM

Kathy, there was so much new to me as well as this was only our second time there, and to the rest of you and your comments, thank you for encouraging me. I learned some new things about my camera this weekend and I loved that. There is always new things to learn. As for the pics of me and Mike, yes I had Kathy take one of us by the tree as well but it looked out of place with all you couples in your cute hats and sunglasses. I’m going shopping!

Downtown Boise

I work downtown and I love that. We have the most beautiful downtown business and shopping district than most cities around — hands down. I often carry my camera to work, taking opportunity of breaks and lunch hours to find things that interest me. Here are a few of my favorites. Outside the Grove Parking […]

Lacey - March 22, 2011 - 9:52 PM

Haha I knew some of those people from the hair school one guy worked at my school when I was there!

Kathy Grover - March 23, 2011 - 12:28 AM

I think I am going to work harder on convincing you to set up a Flickr account and tag these photos with “Boise.” Then even more people could see your extraordinary work. But meanwhile, this has made my day.

Megan - March 23, 2011 - 12:43 AM

How fun to see some of the sights I had forgotten about! Now to see them in person in two short weeks! Eek!!! 🙂

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - March 23, 2011 - 9:07 AM

That is so sweet Kathy, and this will surprise you, but I did set up a Flickr account briefly for the friends portraits as I submitted one of Linda’s in the Kodak Gallery contest. Before I do anything more, however, I need to learn how to do an effective watermark (hint, hint).

Linda Johnston - March 23, 2011 - 9:23 AM

Wow Mary, these are really excellent–OF COURSE. I get so used to seeing things that I don’t really SEE them or marvel in their beauty. Through your lens the beauty of the moment, the person or the object shines all on its own without the distraction of its surroundings. The landscapes and skylines are breathtaking. Thanks for recording the beauty of our little corner of God’s world.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - March 23, 2011 - 9:27 AM

Wow, wasn’t expecting that Linda, but thanks. We’ve all been to a few downtown cities in our lives and those of us here know we have one of the cleanest and most vibrant. Between two jobs this is my 16th year of working in the heart of downtown and I love it!
