Day 18: It’s Cold Outside

32 Day Photo Challenge: Day 18: It’s cold outside. I worked all day today then spent a wonderful evening with my friends over dinner before talking the night away, so while it was cold outside, I didn’t take any pictures. Instead, I am pulling one from the archives taken March, 2011 in front of my […]

I am cold just looking at the picture! I just love the look of a beautiful snowfall.

Megan - December 18, 2012 - 10:11 PM

Such a gorgeous picture. So glad I wasn’t walking in it.

The look on Charlie’s face when he saw the list was priceless. Loved every minute of the Santa visit!

Day 7: The View From Here

32 Day Photo Challenge. Day 7: The View From Here. I went back and reread the rules to this challenge. Rule #1 states: “Enter one photo or many photos that follow the theme or inspiring word for that day.” Here all this time I thought it had to be one new picture each day, which I […]

Beautiful – challenges me to go back and look at the ones I took. I am soooo bad at taking pictures and then not viewing them! I love Riggins too – for so many reasons. This past year was fun.

Fairly Candid - December 7, 2012 - 9:09 AM

I’ll bet you got some stunning ones and it was so fun shooting with you. I wish we did that more often. I picked one quick for this challenge but can’t wait to go back and look over the others more closely. I will probably have a full post on Riggins after Christmas. Such a great place … such great friends to share it with. 🙂

Gloria - December 7, 2012 - 9:26 AM

Mary, I love this photo! It captures the location perfectly and subjects (road, water, mountains, trees..), with light, contrast and detail. Beautiful!

Linda J. - December 7, 2012 - 9:27 AM

I recognize that scene!! It is a beauty to be sure.

Your Man - December 7, 2012 - 3:59 PM

So when are we going to move there?

Mary - December 8, 2012 - 4:25 PM

I should paint this one…Love it

Some People Shoot with a Gun

Went to the park this morning for a photo session of a newly crowned two-year old, then met my g-girls at the playground — all those cutie-patooties and more coming to a blog near you soon! We went down by the river for a few minutes with my new big girl lens (f/2.8 70-200) and […]

Gorgeous, that God of ours does good work 😉

There’s a childhood disease called Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease going around, and some of us got it, including me. (Hey, I’d like to think I’m young at heart!) While some of the symptoms are definitely not fun, the good part (for those without children living at home) is that you have to be quarantined […]

RIP little mouse…… - June 6, 2012 - 5:38 PM

He is … in the bottom of a sack in our trash can.

Megan - June 6, 2012 - 9:37 PM

Oh me oh my, what a collection of amazing photographs and good times- I loved this post, ESPECIALLY all the sweet quotes that you seem to have a perfect picture to match with. One of my favorite photos was of that beautiful little owl looking down at you. I think the fact that we see them so seldom makes it so much cooler when we do…like “Oh yeah, owls really do exist, they are not just adorable nursery decorations!”.

Oh, and my other favorite parts was this: “And Mike, well, he just has the most infectious laugh anyone could ever have, and I love him for it.” because I seriously couldn’t agree more. I remember laying in bed as a little girl listening to Dad laugh at something on the TV downstairs and giggling to myself because of it. LOVE THAT LAUGH…and when he really gets rolling, that’s the best.

Love that you capture nature’s beauty and the small things that most of us would just step over- like the cool skeletal leaf.

Man, I sure am glad you got a virus…thanks for sharing your talent to us blog followers! 😉

Gloria - June 7, 2012 - 9:56 AM

Mary, Some beautiful shots, some great shots and some very special memorable shots…….loved them all! Thank you for sharing!

Diane - June 8, 2012 - 6:44 AM

Love the pictures again. You did a great job. Our May trip was a blast and you have captured some great memories pictures. The picture with you and Mike and the grandbabies is so sweet. And I agree with you Mary, Mike does have a wonderful laugh. The redneck photo is so funny. Thanks for sharing.

It May Feel Like Winter, But It's Still Officially Fall

What does it mean to be a steelhead fisherman in Idaho in November? It means quiet man-time on the beautiful river, rich in color … being one with God … just man and pole … no cares to their name. It’s just the lonely fisherman and the quiet lapping of the river against the pull […]

Matt Mouser - December 9, 2011 - 8:22 AM

Man what great pictures mom. It was a lot of fun this year fishing with dad. Brings back old fishing memories of wading the river at deadwood near Cathedral Pines, the river into Stanley lake, the stream and Edna Creek, the river at Silver Creek. I miss fishing big fish with him on the river up north. Thanks for the comments. Love ya. - December 9, 2011 - 9:10 AM

What a wonderful comment Matt. It meant so much to me but will even mean more to your dad. Love ya right back. MOM - December 14, 2011 - 4:37 PM

These are some of the best pic’s yet. Dad

Cannon Beach

If you need a long break (cause there are lots of stuff in this post and it took me a long time), get by your computer, grab a coke or a coffee, and let yourself be taken away with four grown giddy girls … who two weeks ago spent four days on the Oregon Coast […]

I know why your pictures look so good, Mary (and I’m not referring to textures.) But I keep wondering, why were all those critters in the tidepool the first evening but not there when I returned at another low tide? Were those arms or fins on those strange possibly-shrimp-or-fish creatures? And dang it, how does Linda Johnston look so good on a windy beach?

shayna - October 15, 2011 - 7:29 AM

Awesome post Mary. I crave visiting the Oregon Coast, thanks for giving me a taste of your time there 🙂 - October 15, 2011 - 7:40 AM

Seriously, one of the quaintest little towns, and prettiest beach around and while we didn’t go there this trip, Ecola Park (Beach) is just up the road and so amazing as well. Go to Cannon Beach in June as they have a Sand Castle Competition on the beach. Amazing work. Have a great weekend Shayna.

Roberta Johnston - October 15, 2011 - 8:01 AM

Do I have a favorite picture in the ones you posted??? Where would I start? the starfish, wow! the sand dollars, the “foam” that looked so pretty with all the colors of the rainbow? The cool car show? the bride and her friend, how cool was that??? But I guess my favorite? The pics of you and your cherished friends, after all isn’t that why you were there after all? Long time friends who see life in so many different ways but at the end of the day celebrate the Lord and His blessings in each of your lives all these years of friendship, too bad Oprah isn’t still on the air, she could do a whole show on your precious friendships and what you guys mean to each other! Thanks for posting Mary! I’m going to go back thru the photos again for the third time so I can really enjoy your trip again! - October 15, 2011 - 8:14 AM

Love it … looking at them three times! Woo hoo! If you knew how long I spent on this post and to hear you are looking at them three times – makes a blogger feel reeal good. 🙂 You are so sweet Roberta and so right about the friendships. It sometimes takes effort to keep us all together, but together we are. Have a great weekend. Mary

Linda Johnston - October 15, 2011 - 2:12 PM

Mary, you do the most amazing work preserving the loveliest memories of your family, friends and others. The beach outside our door with beauty so stunning it takes your breath away, the sea creatures in such abundance as I’ve never seen before, spending time with incredible friends and our awesome God, and a little shopping–does make for a perfect weekend getaway. It was so much fun playing Stacy and Clinton to Cathy V–she has such a gentle, beautiful spirit and it was so special to see her eyes light up when she saw how beautiful she looked in clothes that fit her so well. Roberta is right about our precious friendships. I am truly and abundantly blessed by my beautiful friends–all of them, even the ones who didn’t make it this trip and who we missed. Your blog is always so insightful and the perfect complement to your pictures. Yes, Angie and I were rolling our eyes at you and Kathy G while you were in back talking about photography. We got the strangest sense that we were listening to you speak a foreign language. Are you sure you two were speaking English? Thanks Mary. - October 15, 2011 - 8:15 PM

Like I always tell you Linda, it’s easy. Just increase the f stop unless of course you want a blurred effect then you lower the shutter speed … but when you have a bright background, be sure to add a little extra touch of exposure but not too much because you’ll get hot spots on your histogram or you could bump up the ISO so that you can control your DOF. As always, thanks for sharing your heart and reminding the others that we missed them. The crazy part, next year will be totally different with new sights and new experiences for those who can make it.

Liz - October 15, 2011 - 9:25 PM

Mary your pictures are amazing (as usual)!! Thank you for sharing. - October 16, 2011 - 6:57 AM

Liz, thank you! So nice to look on and see a comment from you!

Megan - October 16, 2011 - 10:27 AM

Whoa! I didn’t know starfish and sand dollars came in those colors! How gorgeous!! I love how the seal was posing and can’t believe you were all so brave to get so close! Better than all the scenery photos was all the random photos of you six silly girls smiling and having so much fun together…it makes me happy that you have such a tight knit group of girls to bond with!

Oh, and I agree with you- haystack rock looks amazingly different in each photo.

Love you!

Sheila Webb Clark - October 17, 2011 - 7:53 AM

Love this post Mary. Such great photos and looks like you had a great time!

Kathy Jones - October 17, 2011 - 4:44 PM

Mary – as always – amazing pics! Now I wish I had been there with all of you – you looked like you had a great time – and the scenery was even more stunning than last year! - October 18, 2011 - 8:17 AM

The sights were definitely a bonus this year and we didn’t even get over to Ecola Park. Wondered what we’d have seen there? Whales perhaps since Linda saw some when she was on the Oregon Coast earlier. Who knows. I won’t be able to go next year (I committed to shooting Gloria’s son’s wedding and the two collide, but you can go in my place and take the pictures, ok? OK! Thanks Kathy!)

Beth - The Botut Blog - October 18, 2011 - 11:04 AM

Wow, so beautiful and more than I expected. We just may have to add this spot to our “places to travel” list! - October 18, 2011 - 11:06 AM

Hi Beth, if you make it far enough to go to this beach, you better darn well make it all the way to Idaho! Just sayin’!

Your Man - October 18, 2011 - 8:15 PM

WOW, and you call yourself an amateur. What great pics with great friends. Love ya. - October 18, 2011 - 8:25 PM

Thank You

You are so welcome! Yes keep the posts coming, they always put a smile on my face and make me feel like I am traveling down a road that I have never been down before! I get to travel around and it’s free, what could be better, except being with the photographer taking the photos I guess! That “small” talent of yours, makes a “huge” difference in so many lives that it’s impossible to put a price on it. One of the greatest blessings in life is to be able to know what your passion is and to love doing it, it’s obvious that you have found that out for yourself Mary so keep taking that camera with you where ever you go and keep blogging about your adventures, I’ll be waiting by my computer (:

lsj4157 - September 8, 2011 - 10:07 PM

What Roberta said is so true and she said it so much better than I could have. I feel honored and blessed to be your friend. I love and admire you and your many talents so much that I can’t even be envious of you!! If I weren’t already grown up (more or less), I would want to be just like you. (If I tried that now it would just be weird). I’m truly happy to be your cheerleader! - September 9, 2011 - 5:23 AM

Hugs to you both. Big hugs.

Beth - The Botut Blog - September 9, 2011 - 2:47 PM

Oh yes, keep up the time, energy and effort! I love to see your stuff and look at things through your eye!

kathy - September 10, 2011 - 6:56 PM

You bless so many people through your words and photos – more than you realize. Thank you for hearing God speak and doing His will in your life.

Brenda Tennessee - September 14, 2011 - 6:19 AM

Enjoy your talent. It is definitely a gift from God. I love traveling through another’s pictures. Even seeing the areas around their own homes and how alike or different they are than mine. Your mountain pictures in previous post are breathtaking. You take wonderful pictures. Look forward to seeing more.

Aubrey - September 19, 2011 - 10:02 PM

Love your blog, your photography & your story-telling. Keep it up, and congrats on 2 more perfect grand-babies in the making 🙂

Hunter's Weekend – Labor Day

We went camping over Labor Day with the kids and some good friends (missed you J’s). September 1st is opening Grouse Season (and my husband’s birthday every year) so up the mountain we went. It was a chilly 24 degrees that first morning at 6:30 am, but by the time we reached the summit around […]

My only complaint about these pictures…..Mike should have been wearing a Boise State hat! It comes in Orange too and would work for hunting! Other than that….breathtaking! Mary you need to be putting some of these in the Idaho Outdoors photo contest, but then again if you did, you’d be going up against some really good photographers like my son, Beau! haha, no really Mary, your photos of Idaho are stunning and are worthy of winning a contest, I am so glad you have that eye that can see what those of us miss, in this crazy, busy world, you help us to stop and “smell the roses” or at least stop, if only for a moment, and see what the Lord has created!! You have my Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval….. - September 7, 2011 - 6:10 AM

Oh, that’s funny about the hat Roberta. You are absolutely right! I took one photo that I will now need to add of Mike and Jim sporting their man aprons. Mike’s is BSU! I didn’t know Beau did this too — how cool — and yes, I intended to enter that contest and it sat by my desk and I never did it and was then mad at myself. Next year I promise to not let my lack of confidence get the best of me. Thank you for encouraging me as always.

Megan - September 7, 2011 - 6:25 AM

That second picture has Western Idaho Fair “Best of Show” written all over it. 🙂 Fun but COLD weekend. Oh, and thanks…really, thanks for the mouth-open sleeping picture. Guess it could have been worse, right? And it was such a lovely nap…. - September 7, 2011 - 6:38 AM

Hee hee hee! I remember a much less flattering sleeping pic that showed up on you blog once of me. You know what they say about paybacks don’t you? So glad you guys came!!! Love you.

Aubrey - September 7, 2011 - 6:27 PM

WOW WOW WOW!!!! Those pics are STUNNING. I am so impressed. Looks like fun, wish I could have camping-crashed your group 😀

It was a great time. The weather friends and family all made it perfect. Great pics babe. Next time hand me the camera to get a pic of you with our grandkids. Love you after 36. - September 7, 2011 - 11:04 PM

Aubrey, seriously, thank you! As for crashing the party … any ol’ time! Your boys would have a blast!

Beth - The Botut Blog - September 9, 2011 - 2:52 PM

OH MY GOSH! Just when I think I have found a favorite post you do something like this and make me re-think my favorite!! I love ALL the photos and cracked up at the “Born a golden retriever, shaved a lab.” Although, I must say I’d have to kill you for posting a picture of me sleeping. Why? Because I don’t sleep pretty like Megan does. I’d be all open mouth and drooling!

Awesome stuff Mary!

Cathie Alonzo - September 9, 2011 - 7:24 PM

Cousin Mary, you have definitely found your calling! Your are always just amazing!! Thanks for sharing. - September 9, 2011 - 9:35 PM

justleesha - September 11, 2011 - 2:39 PM

Love all these Mary! All the landscape photos for soooo beautiful!

Nature's Lucky Moments?

Sometimes you are just at the right place at the right time — you know what I mean? I was visiting some family and was just leaving when this butterfly appeared in her flower garden. I’ll give you three guesses what I had in my car? What! You guessed the first time … seriously, you guys […]

I found your site but don’t know how, I would have to hit the back button a bunch. But I really enjoyed it. Beautiful pictures and agree with you on the pictures that are just being right time and place. Some of my favorite of mine lately was with a point and shoot but had beautiful morning light. Enjoyed your wedding pictures and got a few ideas for decorating for an upcoming shower.

I LOVE that butterfly and hummingbird shots! They are awesome! I love macro!

thanks so much for the comment on my blog! It really touched me! And it is always inspiring to hear people struggling to have babies, and know that they got their happy ending. It helps me relax a little 🙂
