An Old and New Kind of Love (Ken and Kathy)

The date was July 3, 1976 — the day before the Bicentennial. Mike and I had been married almost one year and we were at Cathedral Pines Family Camp in Sun Valley where we met Ken. He had just moved to Twin Falls from Northern Ohio (where incidentily Kathy’s family had lived for about 10 years […]

Nice pictures! Hard to say which is my favorite. I like the one on the balcony with the white sky background. But I also like the black and white – oh and the sepia toned too! Heck – they are all great!

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - March 1, 2011 - 7:12 AM

Kathy sent me this comment by e-mail and I told her I was posting it … it was too sweet not too (or else I am too vain), but either way, thank you Kathy … so sweet. It was a beautiful journey for me to get to read and write about all my friends and their love for each other. She writes:

“I looked at the blog today and I think you put way too many pictures of us up, but oh my gosh are they beautiful. That was a very fun experience for me and I really did not mind that I was freezing cold. I just cozied up to Ken. And when I looked at the camera, I pretended I was looking through the camera at you, so it was you I was smiling at, thinking about the kind of person you are, and that made me smile. You are an inspirational friend. I just read somewhere that having a good social network adds 3.7 years to your life, so I guess this weekend must have added a year. Your friend, Kathy”

That last comment made me laugh considering the wonderful post V-Day party we just had at Jim and Diane’s.

botut - March 2, 2011 - 10:43 AM

I hate getting pictures taken but love to take them. I’ll have to remember Kathy’s trick (if I know the photographer!)

I laughed at the “walk…in the dark…off the trail…with branches whipping in her face” part! Donnie has done the same thing to me.

Kathy Sereduk - March 4, 2011 - 3:25 PM

What a beautiful story! I think Mom and Grandma played matchmaker. I loved the pictures. The love and friendship that Kathy & Ken share really showed through them. How fun to take a trip down memory lane with them. We have shared many adventures together, and hope we get to add to those memories as we all grow older together.

[…] location for Ken and Kathy’s post awaked something in me — memories of two special men in my life but more on that in a minute. […]

Boy Meets Girl (Jim and Diane)

This is a love story of boy meets girl. This is his story. The year was 1969. It was the 8th grade year. Boy was at a basketball tournament with friends. He sees girl for the first time as she walks up the stairway to exit the game. He asks his friends who the girl is. They reply. […]

Loved these pictures! Mostly how the snow was “frozen” yet not distracting. Awesome.

Your Man - February 25, 2011 - 4:42 PM

Wow, wish I could ‘ve been in those pics. What a neat couple. They seem to go together like peas and butter. Down 2 earth people who don’t judge. And love each other.

Kay - February 26, 2011 - 10:00 AM

This is AWESOME!!! You two are the best!! Your love for each other is an inspiration!! We love you both so much. The pictures are great!!

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - February 26, 2011 - 10:33 AM

This comment was left on the Page entitled “About Me” but I wanted to add it here for Jim and Diane to see. (Thank you btw, Gail, for such nice comments.) Mary

It was from Gail Kennedy and read: You did such a fabulous job capturing the love I have always seen in my forever friends, Diane and Jim. I am glad you have been encouraged in the art of photography – I think you have a God given talent. Thank you for posting such a wonderful story of two very special people!

Kathy Jones - March 1, 2011 - 7:06 AM

Beautiful pictures of beautiful people! What a great setting! It embodies who Jim and Diane are – down to earth and so full of life! And I always enjoy hearing about “his” story of Boy Meets Girl “sigh”…

Debbie - March 3, 2011 - 12:53 PM

Went to high school with Diane and Jim, and what a great couple. Diane is one of the kindest and greatest friends a person can have. My husband Pat and I feel very blessed to be their friends from South Dakota their hometown!

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - March 3, 2011 - 10:55 PM

Debbie, thank you for visiting the site to read about J & D. I’ll be sure they read your comment. They’ll love it. Mary

A Together Kind of Love (Jim and Kathy)

Imagine a house in the mountains surrounded by some acreage, with a fence and a gate, lots of well cared for dogs and cats, and a river or stream near by. Imagine, if you will, a sign on the gate. What might it read? I think it would simply read “Heaven on earth found here.” […]

It’s true, what a unique couple. Their love for the outdoors and animals make me jealous. I wish I could be that compassionate. Mikey

Lacey - February 21, 2011 - 10:28 PM

Wow what a wonderful post mary! I admire their love for eachother everyday and pray I will be that happy in 36 years! I love my parents!!

botut - February 21, 2011 - 10:51 PM

Wow is that a radical sunset! Loved how you captured the personality of the couple.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - February 21, 2011 - 10:55 PM

That’s BIG that you say that because of all my friends, Kathy hates the camera most. The only other person that hates the camera more is my own dear mom. I’m trying [unsuccessfully] to convert her.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - February 22, 2011 - 12:26 AM

Lacey, we love your parents too and what a beautiful testament you gave. I don’t believe in luck, so do what it takes to make that happen … and you said it … prayer is the place to start! It won’t be long until you’re a bride – have fun! Love, Mary

Jacob and Katie [Engagement]

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today is the most special of days for the month of February and this post is dedicated to our nephew, Jacob, who proposed to his lady-love, Katie, in early December. She said “yes!” and wedding plans are in the making for a beautiful July 29, 2011 wedding at Sawtooth Winery in Nampa. […]

Vickie Mouser - February 14, 2011 - 9:45 PM

Mary, How blessed we are to have you in our family. I cried the entire time i read this. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. It is a true gift you have. The pictures are great.:)

fairlycandid - February 14, 2011 - 10:03 PM

Vickie, thank you so much for that! It means a lot to me and I really was so impressed with these kids and can’t wait for the wedding!

Today is a good day. Smile. Mary

She Loves You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah! (Bob and Kathy)

With Bob and Kathy what you see is what you get. You get quirky and fun, a couple that loves Christ, loves to laugh together and with others, go camping (okay who doesn’t love to camp), listen to the classic Rock-n-Roll tunes, and pull off a unique fashion style all their own. :-)After almost 30 years of marriage they know […]

The picture of Kathy on the bench looking sideways- killer…she’s gorgeous! Kathy- you’re gorgeous!!! (Cause I know you’re reading this!) A perfect write-up with description words for a couple whose love really does shine no matter how well you know them or don’t know them…and really- she totally could rock skinny jeans.

Linda Johnston - February 9, 2011 - 11:55 AM

Kathy’s style is definitely unique to her–and not the slightest contrived. She even rocks that silver hair and absolutely not one person would think of her as an old lady–it is beautiful and suits her personality. I can go into a store and see something cute and cutting edge and immediately think, OOOOH Kathy would look great in this!(Though I know it would make me look silly!) She can do quirky and make it hip and elegant. Okay Bob, you too, though I will have to retract elegant. Mary, you did a great job highlighting our dear friends.

Kathy Jones - February 9, 2011 - 8:01 PM

Mary – you did a great job! Thanks for the kind words! You nailed it! You are the best photographer ever – and boy do you have some unbelievable photo software because that is NOT what I see when I look in the mirror!

fairlycandid - February 9, 2011 - 8:52 PM

Thanks Kathy! I’m so happy you liked it … and I said it once and will say it again … what you see with you two is what you get … a beautiful woman and her funny guy! 😉

Nostalgic Love (Mike and Mary)

We were young … Mike was a week from being 19 and I was a week into being 21 when we married August 23, 1975. We had each lived at home until we married and it didn’t take long to realize that being with each other nearly 24/7 was a bit of an awakening {for […]

Wow! Fun stuff to read – how do you remember all those details? I guess getting married in Vegas does have its advantages! But – every once in awhile I do dream nostalgic about what it would have been like to have a real wedding…

fairlycandid - February 4, 2011 - 9:30 AM

Ha! I don’t remember details … I had them written down. Obviously, I’ve always been anal about my photo albums.

Megan - February 4, 2011 - 10:20 AM

Favorite yet. That was my FAVORITE post you’ve done- it was so fun to read about your love…not that I didn’t know it all already, but it’s always nice to read about how much your Mom loves your Dad and the way she views her life…know what I mean? Thanks for being an open book and always being so real about your love and the importance you place on it.

And Mom, you rocked that wedding dress.

Love you!!!

Linda Johnston - February 4, 2011 - 11:25 AM

Wow, Mary, really you have not changed very much in 36 years. Mikey, a little more but still very recognizable. I’m pretty sure that noone who knew me 36 years ago and then saw me on the street today would have a clue unless I recognized them and told them who I was (and what is the chance I would recognize someone I knew 36 years ago?). I’m with Megan, you rocked that wedding dress!

fairlycandid - February 4, 2011 - 11:34 AM

You and Meg are funny … I did love my dress though … probably the last piece of clothing my mom ever made me. Sweet thing was that when Meg was in the 5th grade and interested in porcelain dolls, my mom bought one, made a replica of my wedding dress with the material she had saved, and almost the same pattern. When Megan opened her gift that Christmas, I was stunned as I had no idea about it. And I thought my mom wasn’t sentimental. I was “thinner” back then (I hated the word skinny) but then weren’t we all. Mike had some nice sideburns going on, didn’t he. R-a-r-r-r. 🙂

Your Man - February 4, 2011 - 4:40 PM

What a surprise. You asked me all those ?’s But didn’t know what fer. Still lovin ya but u still need your own $50 next weekend.

fairlycandid - February 4, 2011 - 5:27 PM

Darn … I was hoping saying all those nice things about you would mean you’d give me play money … I did call you “generous” after all. 😉

Aubrey Archuleta - February 8, 2011 - 7:46 AM

AWESOME. This was so incredible to read! You looked stunning & you have a picture of my mom bowing at your feet! 😉

fairlycandid - February 8, 2011 - 8:16 AM

Aubrey, you’re so fun. Thanks for all the sweet comments. I need to tell your mom I blogged about our wedding so she can see her picture unless you can forward her the link as I don’t have an e-mail address for her. Btw, I loved the picture of her and Leslie on your blog. That was a great one of them both.

Today is a good day. Smile. Mary

Christine Ellis - February 15, 2011 - 1:45 PM

fairlycandid - February 15, 2011 - 1:57 PM

Today is a good day. Smile. Mary

I loved this! The photos and figures were great! I really liked the look at the past and then present. And the shoes….well, they looked like something I had to wear with my nursing uniform at graduation. ‘Nuff said!

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - February 16, 2011 - 9:44 PM

Oh, that was just cruel {but so so true}.

In the Name of "Love" (Linda and Guy)

They say behind every good woman is a good man, or is it behind every good man is a good woman? Either way, it’s true with our good friends, Linda and Guy. They’ve been married 30 years and one of the most endearing things about this couple is their nick names. Guy calls Linda “Love” […]

It's February and Love is in the Air!

It’s February … the month of love,Valentine’s Day, and cupid and while most of us don’t walk around looking ooey-gooey or acting lovey-dovey about the ones we love on a daily basis, we do show it in different ways at different times. Hubs and I have some wonderful people in our lives and so, for the month of […]
