Blake and Sara’s Wedding

Blake and Sara just got married and guess who was the actual hired photographer! Ok, so some of you have heard me say “I don’t shoot weddings” and that would be true … by there’s always exceptions in life and this was one of them. For me, there are too many “what ifs” and things can move quickly when shooting a wedding but I thought it would be a good challenge for me. While I’m not sure I’ll be adding “weddings” to my business cards any time soon, I may enjoy the opportunity for another exception down the road should one present itself. The groom, Blake, is the son of my good friend Gloria, and his now bride, Sara, is so sweet and easy going and the two of them made this so easy for me. I pretty much took pictures of whatever I wanted while they tried to enjoy their day. Sara, admittedly, was a nervous bride while Blake was all smiles and confident. When you see the two together, you see Sara relax into the man who brings her joy and comfort, protection and love. You also see Blake has a hard time keeping his eyes off of her! It was a beautiful wedding and while I personally had some mishaps that had me thanking God for His provision, this wedding will always be fond to me as my first. Thank you Gloria, Blake, and Sara for this opportunity. The wedding was beautiful and I hope by viewing these photos, that you get to enjoy the details of your wedding day from an entirely different perspective. 🙂

I don’t have a client viewing page other than my blog, so please pour yourself a fresh cup of Joe or a Coke and sit with me a while as I share with you much (but not all) of what I shot and edited from Saturday, October 6, 2012 between the hours of 12:30-8:00. I have broken it down into 7 sections for easier viewing. For friends, family, or strangers viewing this post, please don’t be shy and leave a comment if you like. Enjoy! Mary

3. PRE-CEREMONY – CW Moore Plaza

A big word of thanks to Cassie Johnston who came to assist me for two hours during the ceremony and after-ceremony formals with my gear and reflector. She was invaluable to me and I give credits to her for shots # 15, 24, 27, 28, and 29 while using my back-up camera.

4. THE CEREMONY – 3:30

Ceremony Officiated by Nicolle Foster

5. AFTER-CEREMONY FORMALS

FAMILY, WEDDING PARTY, AND BRIDE & GROOM

6. THE RECEPTION – PART I

Cake Cutting (Cake by Greg Marsh), Garter Toss, Bouquet Toss (Flowers by Boise at It’s Best), First Dance (Music by DJ Joe), Father-Daughter Dance, Anniversary Dance, Acknowledgement of Bride’s Parents 33rd Anniversary

There was quite the laughter in the crowd when Sara and Blake cut the cake, put a piece on their plate, then Blake started to feed himself before he stopped himself. Truthfully, I’m not sure when Blake fed Sara her piece — probably when I turned to the crowd to watch them laugh (and take a bad blurry picture). Dang it. Then again for the garter toss, when Blake let go, it went about 3 feet and straight to the ground. He had to pick it up and try again. 🙂 In my opening I shared that Sara was a nervous bride and that when she was with Blake she was a different woman. You will see what I mean in the pictures of their first dance as husband and wife. Seriously folks, I cried taking the pictures as they were just such a beautiful couple together. You’ll see Karen, Sara’s mom, had a few tears of her own while watching their dance and then again when Sara’s dad danced with her. I never saw the laughter the whole day from Sara as I did while she was dancing with her dad. Oh, if I were only a fly on his shoulder hearing everything he was saying to make her laugh.

7. THE RECEPTION – PART II

Food Line (GoodWood), Parent Toasts (by Father of Groom and Mother of Bride), Bride and Groom Toast, Rings, Decorations, and Guests

AND NOW TO SARA AND BLAKE …

… may you always look back on this wedding day with love and fondness for all those who made it happen! Have a beautiful life and enjoy the ride!

AND THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

THE END.

Love, Mary

OMG Mary!!!! I don’t know where to begin! The pictures capture the day absolutely PERFECTLY!! You did an outstanding job and this is all so much more than I expected! The pictures are beautiful and I know you worked SO hard on that day for us. I cannot thank you enough for memorializing our wedding day and for capturing the love that we feel for each other so accurately. I know I was not the easiest bride to work with in the beginning >_> (nerves got the best of me ^_^) but I LOVE that you were able to capture such a change in me from before the wedding to when I was with Blake again. I think those pictures tell a beautiful and unique story that perfectly defines our relationship. Thank you again SO very much for being such a talented photographer and for letting our wedding be your first! I hope it was a great experience for you because Blake and I could not be more thrilled with the results!!

Ok, you made me tear up with your sweet note. Like I told you at the hotel, I was a nervous bride too so I COMPLETELY understood what you were dealing with. Everything went pretty smoothly, with a few hiccups on my end that I expected being my first wedding and all, but it was a good experience and your day was great. I hear such wonderful things from Gloria about all of you and I felt so comfortable with the two of you from the very get-go. There were times this past year when I said “why did I agree to do a wedding!” but you know what? I’m glad I did after seeing the pictures, and I’m glad it was for you.

Dawn Wickham - October 15, 2012 - 10:41 PM

Mary, these are absolutely amazing. There are photographers that have been doing weddings for 20 years and haven’t been able to achieve shots like these. You really have the talent and I honestly think you should continue doing them! Thank you so much for being there for Blake and Sara and for the rest of our family. These photos mean the world to every last one of us.

Fairly Candid - October 15, 2012 - 10:54 PM

Wow Dawn, that’s so kind of you! Should another opportunity come along, I promise to give it some thought. 🙂

Tracey - October 16, 2012 - 8:36 AM

It was hard work but you can’t tell it by the pictures. They are quite professional. I hope to see more wedding photos in our future with Fairly Candid!

Fairly Candid - October 16, 2012 - 9:55 AM

Thanks Tracey! It WAS hard work — especially culling and editing pictures afterwards when there are so many. It all takes time, but now a memory in time, right? Now on to editing three other photo shoots taken since the wedding. Never a dull moment around here anymore. 🙂
