Happy 5th Nick and Olivia!

Who loves a good romance, or the fun and energy of a child … or how about snakes … eek! This post has them all. I met Nick, Olivia, 4 year old Claire, and 3 year old Daphne almost a year ago at Ella’s ONDderful First Birthday party. Ella’s mom and dad, Lori and Craig, […]

Holy. Cow. I don’t even know these guys, but I have fallen in love with them through your pictures. Once again, seeing pictures taken by Mary = brighter day for me.

admin - August 30, 2012 - 7:22 AM

Wow thanks Kathy. That was a really nice thing to say. 🙂 I appreciate you! Mary

Olivia Johnston - September 2, 2012 - 9:39 AM

This was our fourth annual family picture session, and the absolute best. We’ve done green, yellow, orange, and now purple years. When we put our updated 8×10 family picture (the album cover photo you used- Love it) on the wall, the picture stands out from the other years of forced (non-duchenne) cheap studio smiles. The image doesn’t lie that we all love each other and our time spent together is happy.

My top loves are any action pictures because I can’t normally get pictures of that quality on my phone camera (my primary picture taking device). I love 17 and 20 of 33 when the girls are running and 24 of 33 when we are swinging the girls over the water.

We really love 28 and especially 30 of 33 husband/wife pictures. The snake picture (6 of 33) will be our sister picture for the wall and we like 26 of 33 for a Claire individual and either 13 or 22 for Daphne’s individual picture. 4 and 5 of 33 with our family walking and sitting on the bridge are also our favorites.

We were very pleased to have such a wonderful experience with you and would definitely recommend your creative work to family and friends.

Wow Olivia, you just made my day! Thank you for letting me know of your favorites — many of which were my favorites as well so I appreciate you taking the time. Your purple was awesome and I loved that you have a new color theme each year. So fun! With thanks, Mary

Nick Johnston - September 4, 2012 - 9:51 AM

Mary, What a spectacular job! As you can see, I have some very profound competition when it comes to being presented in front of a camera with these three beautiful ladies. You as well could have titled this shoot “Three Beauties and the Beast”. All kidding aside, your style of photography and ability to capture the moment is unparalleled. Thanks for being able to add the spontaneity so desperately needed that day after a non-stop weekend of recreating in the beautiful outdoors of Idaho. As for the discovery of the snake and the inclusion of such a surprise, I have to say that was brilliant! We have captured at least two more snakes since that time for appreciation and observation. My response after seeing these photographs was an exclamation of “Fantastic!”. For any of our photographic needs, especially keepsake family portrait “time captures” I will definitely call you and recommend you again and again. Nicely done. Regards.

Oh my goodness, you two rock! Thank you Nick for your wonderful comments. I truly appreciate them. I named my website Fairly Candid because truly, taking candids is what I love doing the most. True personalities come out when people are just “playing” and it’s good to let our playful side out now and again. Thank you for being such a good sport. With thanks, Mary

My Crazy Kid

So I’ve been catching up on a few things and ran across these from a family wedding we attended a few weeks back. My daughter and son-in-law were made for each other. I thought this might be good payback for the last couple of pics Megan has put on her blog of me … you […]

admin - August 26, 2012 - 10:51 PM

You’re the best Aubrey! Hope all is well … I’ve copied your blackberry cobbler recipe. I picked about 70 cups of blackberries in Riggins last week. YUM!

Megan - August 27, 2012 - 2:58 PM

Oh my that Man has a big mouth- all the better to smile and kiss me with. 😉 LOVE the family photo where Syd has her mouth open- so Syd…and that serious look from Simone…it just might have to go on the wall. Love each and every perfect smile in the last photo.

Laura - September 1, 2012 - 10:00 PM

The new website is stunning! Great photography as usual. That picture captures Meg’s and Robbie’s personalities perfectly!

The Mills Family

I’d never met this family until this session, but Danielle and I sure had fun by e-mail before the day arrived. She wanted old barns and tractors, sometime I like as well so I made a drive near Kuna to the “barn of her dreams.” Only problem is her dreams didn’t share with me the […]

My g-babes are growing up! Sydney is 2-1/2 and has the cutest new haircut and Simone will be 4 months in a few days. Megan shared a video with me that I want to share with you in return. Her note simply said ” “I would pay money to understand what Simone thinks is so […]

Little Eedie [Newborn]

She was three weeks old when I photographed her, but Eedie was still a true itty bitty. She weighed 7.1 at birth on July 20th and was 19.5″ long and so dainty and adorable. This was the first time meeting Eedie and her awesome mom, Ashley, as they were referred to me by another newborn […]

I-YI-YI, My Brain Hurts

Okay, so the new site is up and running but I still have a few bugs to work out. Seriously, does everything have to be so difficult to learn! As for this week, here’s a little sneaky-peeky of what I’ve been up to. Two new beginnings … a high school senior and a newborn baby. Neither will […]

I didn’t get an e-mail saying you had a post, so I’ll try adding the RSS feed again.

LOVE that she is standing in water- so original. Whose idea?

And those baby lips? Ridiculous!

Aubrey - August 11, 2012 - 9:11 AM

Keep going Mary! Everything looks SO great and the pictures are on point, as always. I am so excited for the new look, probably because I didn’t have to do any of the work 😉 Hang in there!

My Photographic Journey – The End?

Where to start? Perhaps I’ll just start at the end and cut to the chase by saying this is it — the end of my little photo blog here at WordPress.com. It’s been a wonderful place to play these past (almost) two years and 190 posts later. I have enjoyed putting my thoughts and photos […]

Great picture of you. . .How did you do that one? Tripod? I’ll be following you wherever you go–but you probably knew that.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - August 6, 2012 - 6:25 PM

I shot the staff at work for our Intranet page … just gave my camera to another photographer in the group after doing hers. I just got lucky that one turned out of me … with some “extreme” editing on my part of course. 😉

Lacey Borchardt - August 6, 2012 - 10:24 PM

Mary, I’m so excited and proud of you and your work!!! Can’t wait to do a newborn shoot with you! I already found 2 blankets he will be photographed with 🙂 Can not wait to see your new site! God Bless you!

Kathy Grover - August 7, 2012 - 12:17 AM

Wow, that picture of you just elicited a seriously big smile from me!

I’m sure I don’t have to remind you that no matter how “extreme” the editing, the picture won’t be great unless it’s great to begin with. Kudos to your fellow photographer and to you for being photogenic from the get go.

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - August 7, 2012 - 7:20 AM

Lacey, thank you! I was so excited when your mom told me you wanted me to photograph Maks. Can’t wait to meet that little guy next month. Sorry to have missed your shower and that growing belly and congrats on the house! So much excitement coming your way. 🙂 Love, Mary

Yay Mom!!! I like to think of myself as one of your biggest cheerleaders…I’m so PROUD of you!!! You’ve come so far, broken out of so many comfort zones and are FINALLY realizing (and admitting) that you really do take amazing photos! I’m excited to watch you expand on your continued journey with Fairly Candid. I admire you!

Megan - August 7, 2012 - 8:59 AM

Oops…it’s not supposed to say Proud Mommy- that was from my last comment! More like Proud Daughter!

FairlyCandid.wordpress.com - August 7, 2012 - 10:24 AM

YES, you have been one of my greatest cheerleaders from the very first day you heard about my new blog and sent me a congratulations card from Hawaii. Seriously, how sweet was that. I appreciate you Megan … and in response to your second comment, I’m the “proud mommy” now.
