Happy Halloween

I had a visitor today … a homemade baby zebra that just about melted my heart. Another thing that melts my heart is that my daughter has taken on the tradition I did with her and her brother growing up, which was to put on their homemade costume and go “treat” family members at their […]

Oh. My. Gosh. I just want to hug and kiss all of them, they are sweet like Halloween candy. Favorite = serious zebra face.

Roberta - November 1, 2011 - 6:48 AM

Isn’t it amazing how the Lord entrusts such sweet wee ones to our care to shape them, mold them and guide them. We think we are the ones giving and yet, what a blessing and a gift they are to all of us! That has to be the cutest zebra outfit I’ve ever seen, or was it the sweet girl wearing it?? Either way, adorable!!! And in our family, hands down, COWBOY UP is the only way to go!! Shari was a “bull fighter” this year for work and she said 90% of her co-workers were a cowboy or cowgirl of some kind so good job on that outfit! Mary, as usual, your posts never cease to put a smile on my face, it’s like Christmas when I see I got an email that says you have a new post! I usually open them first, even before the “important” ones! So keep them coming….

Maci Ray Ann [Newborn]

Meet Maci and her mom Amy. Maci was two weeks old when we shot these, and to be quite honest I offered to take them for free to give me more experience with newborns. I have been studying some different poses and needed to try them out and on most photo shoots, I usually feel […]

Aubrey - October 30, 2011 - 6:51 PM

Congrats to Amy, nothing like a baby to flip our world upside down in the most wonderful way! Newborn pics are the ones I wish I could do over, so good on ya, Mary, for seizing the moment.

Susie Tilton - November 1, 2011 - 7:08 PM

A beautiful experience! Much more personal than “studio” pics! Thank you Mary for this gift, I enjoyed the visiting with you and it made me realize how I miss my FBC family! Watching my daughter adore her precious new daughter through the morning was priceless. This was far more than a photo session. . . it was so amazing to take time out of the morning to celebrate and focus completely on God’s gift to Amy. . . sweet little Maci! Thank You! - November 1, 2011 - 7:29 PM

That’s sweet Susie. What a good grandma you are going to be and so dedicated to helping raise a new generation! Seeing you has reminded me of how much we miss seeing you at FBC too. I came back after two years … maybe you should too! 😉 I think your love bucket is going to run over with this little one. Enjoy!

Superheros: The Family

When you were growing up who were your Superheros? Was it Flash, Supergirl, or The Fly of the 50’s? Or how about the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Spider-Man, Iron Man, X-Men, The Avengers, or Captain Marvel of the 60’s? Are you surprised that many of our Superhero movies of today were from the Superhero Cartoons of 40-50 […]

Today is my grandson’s 2nd birthday (October 20). Pictures taken of him one year ago were the first pictures on Fairly Candid. It was titled “GAP! Seeing the wonderful photos of this beautiful family that I admire and love so much made me weepy. Andrea’s Mom will be thrilled to see her beautiful family on her wall while she is so far away. You did it again Mary! - October 18, 2011 - 8:44 PM

Thank you Linda. I’ll be honest that I was pretty proud of this session … and I want their yard!!!

LoraLee - October 18, 2011 - 10:32 PM

Oh Mary, what darling pictures of such a beautiful family!! You are so blessed to have them in the church!!
They are without doubt a special family, you can tell by the radiance in all of their faces. We will look forward to
meeting them the next time we visit.
Honey, you are doing such remarkable work with your photography!! God has blessed you with a such talent
to capture such gorgeous pictures. Not to mention that sweet personality that would invite a wild animal to
lay at your feet!!
We treasure the precious book you made for our 50th anniversary. A gift that keeps you close to our hearts!!

Kathy Grover - October 18, 2011 - 10:42 PM

It just gets better and better, huh? - October 19, 2011 - 7:30 AM

Lora Lee, you’re the best and I appreciate you. Your comments made me laugh with ‘wild animals lay at my feet’. Hilarious. I love making books but sadly time hasn’t permitted it much since having grandkids and starting Fairly Candid. I’m busy but will never regret the photos I take — especially of my growing family. Seriously, can you believe I am going to have FOUR grandbabies come April. Oh boy, I think I’m busy now … just wait. We always look forward to seeing you guys. Hope it’s sooner than later. Love, Mary

Andrea - October 19, 2011 - 12:42 PM

As I looked through the pictures tears were welling up in my eyes. Do I “like” the pictures? Oh my goodness, we love them! Wow. Thank you. You have a true gift. It is a gift you have been given by God that you graciously & generously give to others through your photography. Thank you for such a great batch of pictures that will fill many frames, bring back many memories, and you certainly captured the true growing personalities of our 7 1/2, 5, and 4 year old. I cannot wait to “gift” these pictures…as I know they will treasured.

Thank you, Mary. Thank you! - October 19, 2011 - 1:28 PM

Thank you Andrea — you are so kind! You guys made it so easy for being so willing to do anything. Your kids are so cute (inside and out) and Mike commented last night that Autumn was such a little doll. You have even more poses coming on your CD. I can get carried away (as you well know).

Team Priebe » - October 9, 2012 - 2:54 PM

[…] Meet Team Priebe! Matt, Team Captain, Youth Pastor at First Baptist Church for 5.5 years, and the craziest jumper I’ve ever seen. Andrea is Co-Captain and all-around team support and organizer, a lover of kids and youth. Madelyn at 8-and-a-half (the halves matter at this age) is in third grade and is so smart and ready to tackle anything. Brennan (I called the poor lad Brenner all morning) is 6 and a Kindergartner and a constant reminder of my son at that age with his blonde hair, blue eyes, and fun personality. Autumn rounds out the family turning 5 this December and has the team title of being the “bossiest” by her sister, although I never saw any of it. You will see she kept a wary eye on me most of the time, but when she let go of her smile, it glowed. You can view their last year’s photo session here. […]

Kathy Grover - October 14, 2011 - 11:30 PM

I know why your pictures look so good, Mary (and I’m not referring to textures.) But I keep wondering, why were all those critters in the tidepool the first evening but not there when I returned at another low tide? Were those arms or fins on those strange possibly-shrimp-or-fish creatures? And dang it, how does Linda Johnston look so good on a windy beach?

shayna - October 15, 2011 - 7:29 AM

Awesome post Mary. I crave visiting the Oregon Coast, thanks for giving me a taste of your time there 🙂 - October 15, 2011 - 7:40 AM

Seriously, one of the quaintest little towns, and prettiest beach around and while we didn’t go there this trip, Ecola Park (Beach) is just up the road and so amazing as well. Go to Cannon Beach in June as they have a Sand Castle Competition on the beach. Amazing work. Have a great weekend Shayna.

Roberta Johnston - October 15, 2011 - 8:01 AM

Do I have a favorite picture in the ones you posted??? Where would I start? the starfish, wow! the sand dollars, the “foam” that looked so pretty with all the colors of the rainbow? The cool car show? the bride and her friend, how cool was that??? But I guess my favorite? The pics of you and your cherished friends, after all isn’t that why you were there after all? Long time friends who see life in so many different ways but at the end of the day celebrate the Lord and His blessings in each of your lives all these years of friendship, too bad Oprah isn’t still on the air, she could do a whole show on your precious friendships and what you guys mean to each other! Thanks for posting Mary! I’m going to go back thru the photos again for the third time so I can really enjoy your trip again! - October 15, 2011 - 8:14 AM

Love it … looking at them three times! Woo hoo! If you knew how long I spent on this post and to hear you are looking at them three times – makes a blogger feel reeal good. 🙂 You are so sweet Roberta and so right about the friendships. It sometimes takes effort to keep us all together, but together we are. Have a great weekend. Mary

Linda Johnston - October 15, 2011 - 2:12 PM

Mary, you do the most amazing work preserving the loveliest memories of your family, friends and others. The beach outside our door with beauty so stunning it takes your breath away, the sea creatures in such abundance as I’ve never seen before, spending time with incredible friends and our awesome God, and a little shopping–does make for a perfect weekend getaway. It was so much fun playing Stacy and Clinton to Cathy V–she has such a gentle, beautiful spirit and it was so special to see her eyes light up when she saw how beautiful she looked in clothes that fit her so well. Roberta is right about our precious friendships. I am truly and abundantly blessed by my beautiful friends–all of them, even the ones who didn’t make it this trip and who we missed. Your blog is always so insightful and the perfect complement to your pictures. Yes, Angie and I were rolling our eyes at you and Kathy G while you were in back talking about photography. We got the strangest sense that we were listening to you speak a foreign language. Are you sure you two were speaking English? Thanks Mary. - October 15, 2011 - 8:15 PM

Like I always tell you Linda, it’s easy. Just increase the f stop unless of course you want a blurred effect then you lower the shutter speed … but when you have a bright background, be sure to add a little extra touch of exposure but not too much because you’ll get hot spots on your histogram or you could bump up the ISO so that you can control your DOF. As always, thanks for sharing your heart and reminding the others that we missed them. The crazy part, next year will be totally different with new sights and new experiences for those who can make it.

Liz - October 15, 2011 - 9:25 PM

Mary your pictures are amazing (as usual)!! Thank you for sharing. - October 16, 2011 - 6:57 AM

Liz, thank you! So nice to look on and see a comment from you!

Megan - October 16, 2011 - 10:27 AM

Whoa! I didn’t know starfish and sand dollars came in those colors! How gorgeous!! I love how the seal was posing and can’t believe you were all so brave to get so close! Better than all the scenery photos was all the random photos of you six silly girls smiling and having so much fun together…it makes me happy that you have such a tight knit group of girls to bond with!

Oh, and I agree with you- haystack rock looks amazingly different in each photo.

Love you!

Sheila Webb Clark - October 17, 2011 - 7:53 AM

Love this post Mary. Such great photos and looks like you had a great time!

Kathy Jones - October 17, 2011 - 4:44 PM

Mary – as always – amazing pics! Now I wish I had been there with all of you – you looked like you had a great time – and the scenery was even more stunning than last year! - October 18, 2011 - 8:17 AM

The sights were definitely a bonus this year and we didn’t even get over to Ecola Park. Wondered what we’d have seen there? Whales perhaps since Linda saw some when she was on the Oregon Coast earlier. Who knows. I won’t be able to go next year (I committed to shooting Gloria’s son’s wedding and the two collide, but you can go in my place and take the pictures, ok? OK! Thanks Kathy!)

Oh Mary, what a wonderful blessing. I have always felt just like you described this situation – – I’ll bet letters are written by somebody else, there probablly isn’t even a real child by that name, it’s just made up for publicity. Your story just gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. God bless you for listening to that still small voice.
With much love to you,
LoraLee and Lee - October 15, 2011 - 7:43 AM

You made me smile by actually reading it! On a photography blog, there’s supposed to be pictures, not so much text! No, there’s no rule that says that, I’m just kidding. Thank you Lora Lee, you always bless me with your comments. Have a great weekend. I’m heading off to the Pumpkin Patch with my daughter-in-law and grandson. You know what that means! … stay tuned! 🙂

Kathy Jones - October 21, 2011 - 5:25 AM

Ooh, squeal. My favorite posts are the ones that involve Sydney! I love the sheer happiness that was captured on the crazy bridge…she was so proud of herself, wasn’t she?!? And seriously…no more nuts before dinner!!! 😉

Linda Johnston - October 11, 2011 - 8:57 PM

Never for one second have I thought those two grandbabies look alike. But. . .in the picture with them sitting on your lap, they kind of look alike. Actually, they DO look alike–one brown eyed and one blue. I probably won’t see a resemblance again, but that picture definitely shows a family resemblance. After all, they ARE related. - October 11, 2011 - 9:07 PM

I thought you were nuts, but you know, I looked back at that picture, and you may be right. Crazy. - October 11, 2011 - 9:12 PM

Did you cringe on the slide photo? I do every time I see it. Yes, she was so proud of herself. She looked so much older to me in those photos too … did she to you? And good luck on the no nuts policy.

I Heart Faces | "Raise Your Hands" When I read what the theme of the photo challenge was for this week I had about five photos I wanted to consider.
