Milt and Maxine – Home on the Range

Milt and Maxine just recently celebrated sixty years. 60. As in a six + a zero. As in 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 20, 40, 60 years of marriage! As in a long time! Wow, seriously people, how many couples do you know that have been married 60 years? I’ve been fortunate to know a […]

OH Mary! These are awesome pictures of the folks! You captured them so well, love all the places you took their pictures, you certainly have an eye for detail and we will forever be in your debt for taking these of Milt and Max! Loved the story line too, so sweet. Thank you for taking the time to make a memory for the kids and grandkids and greats too. Love you!

jennessjohnston2 - August 30, 2011 - 7:23 PM

Tears were in my eyes with the first picture. Many dear memories have been made at Grandma and Grandpa Grapes (as Lily calls him) place and with my wonderful Grandparents. The picture are beautiful!!!! Thanks for capturing all the stories and love.

lsj4157 - August 30, 2011 - 8:18 PM

Mary, thank you, thank you, thank you to you and to your able assistant Mikey. They turned out so well. It just wouldn’t have been right to have their photos done in a studio. This was perfect and, as always, you ROCK!!! Your blog really captured their personalities and the pictures captured their spirits. They were such troopers and did everything you asked and I’m so glad we have some beautiful photos to commemorate their sixty years together. What a blessing to our family. - August 30, 2011 - 8:49 PM

All right you three, you made my day! I was in the grocery store when Mike called so when I hung up I checked my messages and got yours Roberta. Have to say I got a little (tiny bit) misty-eyed. Then later Jenness, then Linda. I’m touched knowing you are touched. You have a legacy up on “the mountain” and it’s nice to have memories — I know that more than anyone. Of course, you already have the memories, but you know what I mean. I really, really enjoyed myself so there you go. I’ve even gotten over the fact that the sun came out as soon as M & M walked into the house! And hey, anybody with the signa M & M have to be some pretty great people, right!

Roberta Johnston - August 31, 2011 - 7:32 PM

I hope you have facebook and can read all the wonderful responses to the pictures you took of the folks! Everyone is so impressed with your work, your blog and your wit! The Lord has truly blessed you with your talent and you are blessing so many others in the process, thank you again sweetie!

Kathy Bettger - August 31, 2011 - 8:14 PM

Again, on top of things, Mary. Wow! These are great. I came in through the FB route, so the news is circulating there. You have touched more lives with your beautiful stories & pix. Keep it up.

Laura Higgs - September 2, 2011 - 12:47 AM

beautiful. May we all be so blessed. - September 5, 2011 - 2:53 PM

Just got home from camping to see your sweet note. I am so grateful for you and Linda who have both told me FB is getting the comments. That is so cool and I am happy for Milt and Maxine because it reflects back to them. They were awesome! I do not have FB (can you believe someone on the planet does NOT have it!) so Linda said she would track some comments for me. How fun! Thank you again Roberta for reading and commenting. It has certainly meant something to me. - September 5, 2011 - 2:56 PM

Seriously, how cool is that! Thank you Kathy for letting me know. Andy and Lauren and Milt and Maxine have created some nice hits to my blog which is always fun to see. I know it is the people that the blog is about that is creating the stir and not me, but fun for me to see people enjoy it.

I Heart Faces Photo Challenge | White “White Cake” My mom is still full of vin and vinegar. Baby Marlies [Newborn]

Tiny. That’s what Marlies was. Tiny. None of my own babies or grandbabies were that small and while many of you have had smaller babies, this little sweetie looked pretty darn little to me. She weighed 6.9 pounds at birth so nothing out of the ordinary, but the mind forgets that babies are really that […]

Love the big yawn!!!

Megan - August 28, 2011 - 9:41 AM

Oh my, she’s gorgeous!!! What a sweet little girl…I love the bows! - August 28, 2011 - 12:26 PM

Pretty baby for sure! I made up the bows just as they were arriving by tearing apart a necklace I have, finding some seam binding, lace, and elastic in my old sewing kit, sewing them all together, then pulling out my trusty hot glue gun to attach the flowers. I need to buy some flowers though because I am going to reassemble my necklace cause it was new! 🙂

Kathy Grover - August 28, 2011 - 4:47 PM

I don’t know how to thank you enough for producing the beautiful pictures of Marlies and precious Roman and Jenny. My heart is filled with gladness. - August 28, 2011 - 7:48 PM

You just did thank me enough — your heart glad makes my heart glad.

Kay Lynn - August 29, 2011 - 9:07 PM

Jenny and Roman said you’d taken photos .. I had to see if they were up yet! I love them. The one with the big yawn is my fave. 🙂 - August 29, 2011 - 10:00 PM

Thank you Kay Lynn for writing. You know I had all these stations and stuff planned, but Marlies had her own plan. Babies are like that and that’s the beauty and adventure in it. She’s pretty dang cute!

Lori - August 30, 2011 - 11:56 AM

I love them! Great work Mary!!

Kathy Jones - August 31, 2011 - 9:02 PM

Kathy Bettger - September 6, 2011 - 2:53 PM

Beautiful people, beautiful baby, beautiful photos. Good work by all.

lsj4157 - September 6, 2011 - 8:38 PM

Beautiful baby, happy family, all captured with Mary’s extraordinary eye for capturing the spirit of the moment and the heart of her subjects, who just happen to be some of my favorite young people. Blessings to Jenny, Roman and Marlies–and the whole Royer/Grover families. Thanks for sharing Mary.

Thank you Sheila! Didn’t get one picture that I had in mind to get, but that’s how babies are and how can you go wrong with ANY baby picture, right? So guess what?! Oh my gosh, is this the cutest idea ever!!! Mary, you never cease to amaze me. What a precious way to cherish the kids at these adorable ages with such beautiful pictures with Grandma Jo Jo. I loved the kids’ darling aprons. And as I always say, I enjoy your captions as much as the pictures!! Keep up the wonderful work. I will be back to see what’s next. - August 24, 2011 - 8:25 AM

Lora Lee, you’re the best. I compete every week against 600 or more photographers so while I’ll never win against the great competitors, it’s always fun entering any way.

Linda Johnston - August 24, 2011 - 8:33 AM

What precioius pictures! Granny Jo Jo is very brave to take on baking with toddlers AND have her picture taken to boot. Give your wonderful Mama Happy Birthday wishes from me.

Megan - August 24, 2011 - 1:12 PM

What a sweet post for Grandma…I loved all the descriptions of her character, personality and loving demeanor. She is a keeper…we’re all so very lucky, aren’t we.

Oh, and the pics- you’re totally gonna win. 😉

Roberta Johnston - August 24, 2011 - 2:00 PM

What a wonderful memory for your mom and those precious grandkids to have; and for the generations to come! Great idea Mary and even better that you were able to capture all their personalities to boot! Very creative, reminds me of something Sandra Lee would do on her show “Semi Homemade”! She always has her background match her outfits or visa versa, but it’s always beautiful (just like your work!) Blessings to your mom on her 84th! - August 24, 2011 - 5:06 PM

Roberta, cool comments that are truly appreciated and I will give my mom your blessings. I let her read my blog today and she snickered in a place or two … didn’t ask which ones since I figured it was the comment about the obstinate woman in the family. Yes, me included at times. Thanks for reading Roberta. Mary

Beth - The Botut Blog - August 21, 2011 - 9:27 PM

Love it! This reminds me of when all of mine were that age. The pet store was one of our favorite places to spend hours of our day (in winter). I just wish someone would’ve cautioned me against actually bringing the pets home as the kids got older and more convincing in their requests! I would’ve saved myself from turtles, hamsters, frogs, geko, bunnies, fish….I haven’t crossed the bird or snake line and Do Not plan to!!

I guess the truth is that I am an animal lover at heart and did not require much convincing! - August 21, 2011 - 9:32 PM

You were obviously a very good mom … we had our limits but did have the hermit crabs, hamsters, and fish. I was big into turtles as a kid and killed one in my pocket when I took it to the grocery store against my mom’s orders. I got to wrestling in the back seat of the car with one of my sisters and oops, forgot about it. So sad. Lesson learned.

Life with Kaishon - August 21, 2011 - 10:45 PM

What an awesome shot to get inside of a pet store! Mine are always as blurry as can be inside of the pet store. LOVE this : )

Donna - August 22, 2011 - 6:00 PM

Petra - August 22, 2011 - 6:52 PM

This is such a sweet photo. The expression on that dog’s face is so great! I would have never made it home without the dog. 🙂

Kathy Grover - August 21, 2011 - 6:48 PM

How’s it feel to be a WINNER ? I went to the fair the first night and had the attendant help me find your pix. I started hopping around and singing WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER! But make a mental note for next year: get advice from Kathy, do the opposite, and get ready to collect your prize. - August 21, 2011 - 7:50 PM

Too funny … cause I was hopping around too! Mental note for next year … continue to listen to my good friend’s critique … and give them more choices! - August 21, 2011 - 7:51 PM

Thanks Lora Lee! I read your message to my mom, who I might add is not like me … she’s much more humble as she didn’t even jump around when she heard she won! Thanks for subscribing to my blog Lora Lee. Hope things are calming down for you guys. Love ya, Mary

lsj4157 - August 21, 2011 - 8:10 PM

I’ll tell mom … you never know … you just might get one. She has made three since Christmas! My mom is a “real woman” too. I love that woman! She bakes, she irons, she sews, she quilts and is humble to boot.

Fun Time Summer Time With the Ones I Love

I am having a blast this summer with my grandbabies! And in case you were wondering … no, I don’t always have a camera in their space or face (gol, what do you think I am — obsessive or something?
